The good is surrounding our new coach with NFL experience so he can spend more time focusing on calling plays. The bad could possibly be what happened in Cleveland, todd Haley & Gregg Williams both during "hard knocks" questioning hue Jackson's decisions. Seemed like they treated him like he knew not what he was doing. Hopefully that doesn't happen in Arizona all the while hoping to expose our new coach as being in over his head in the NFL with no experience & for their personal gain? I'm hopeful Vance Joseph wants to kill it as our defensive coordinator to get another head coaching job, not to make kliff look stupid so he can step in.

MB is paying a pretty penny for this staff. Loyalty ain't cheap but money talks so I suspect most egos will be in check

Todd Haley and Greg Williams are know as having huge egos and not being real team players. Hue Jackson as HC was a disaster that lost the locker room of the Browns. Keim is working with KK to bring the right coaches that know the NFL but blend in with him. KK is interviewing them and the bottom line its really on him to make sure these coaches work well with him.

Although this happening is not impossible, i believe MB is being completely transparent as far as what everyone's role will be on this team. Seems to me that they have laid out what the OC and DC will be doing on this team during interview process. DC will basically be head coach of the defense and OC will defer to KK on play calling, while helping him adapt to the NFL. Also think KK will be very open to working with others. As Adrian Wilson said, hes very self aware. I dont think egos will be an issue. At least that's what i hope anyway

When evaluating coaching hires, I think we risk falling into a huge trap.

The focus seems to be stats-oriented (i.e. who won the most games as a quality control specialist or whose defense gave up the fewest passing yards in 2 out of the past 7 seasons).

What we don't know is "the human part" - how each of these guys interact with staff, players and one another. Or how well they make half-time adjustments, deal with their own players or bring their unit back from adversity. Or how they respond to being chewed out (or maybe even scarier, how they deal with success)..

A lot of this intangible stuff takes place behind the scenes without our even knowing it, and is far too complex to be of much value predicting future success or failure.

Yet most of the reaction to an offseason coaching move ignores the hard-to-fathom process of dealing with people. Nothing wrong with bringing out the stats to reinforce an argument. It's just that stats and bios aren't the only thing - not even close.

Good post. Hue Jackson is a moron, so I’m not surprised that Haley & Williams questioned his every move. I don’t think that’ll be the case with KK & his coordinators. As far as being innovative, on a scale from 1-10, Hue is about -4. KK will be in the 7-10 range. I like the VJ hire for the exact reason you mentioned above. At this stage in his career, he’s not thinking that he’s a DC lifer. But, he knows what his defenses have to do to get another HC opportunity.

Todd Haley & Gregg Williams are known to have aggressive and standoffish personalities. Basically, they are phallic objects.

Your concern is real and wise to point out, but I don't get the impression that our two are like that. Joseph is said to be a straight shooter with little ego and Sarkisian's issues have been drug/alcohol related and I don't think he's in a position to undermine anyone.

Welcome to the board.
