Our family is planning to head on down to Flagstaff for Red/White Practice on Aug. 2nd. Anyone have a heads up for a good hotel nearby? Thanks for the info on Mike & Rhonda's/San Felipe's bar--we will definitely check them out.

Thank you Bucky Bird. I did get the visitor guide information through google, but there are so many hotels listed it was hard to weed through. Do you live in the area?

yep, leaving early Sunday morning. Should be there about 10:00pm. Luv the cool air and heading to Sedona. I wish I could live in Sedona, but Texas is a much cheaper state to live in. Have fun at camp!!!

cardfan, I recommend you stay in one of the places near the NAU campus on the south end of town. That way, you have a 3 to 5 minute drive (at most) to the dome and playing fields.

You have a large number of places to choose from to choose from. Old town is furthur away but nothing in Flagstaff is a long drive unless you go way out North and East.

Just mapquest yourself up a view of the NAU area or try these links:

Wait, this link is perfect:

Flagstaff is very small...look for the best deals. Try not to stay off 66 if you can, since the traffic going to camp can get dumb and instead of 5 minutes, it can be 15. Otherwise, go with whatever. It's a small college town...and you will LOVE it.

Thank you Skkorpion and Donald. As I was googling earlier, I found a hotel called the Monte Vista in Old Town that looks very elegant and is supposed to be haunted! I thought the kids would really like that, but there is no availability for Aug. 2nd weekend. I will try your sites next Skorp. We actually went to the red/white practice last year but we stayed at a hotel too far away and too expensive.

We always stay at the LaQuinta Inn - they allow pets and have a good breakfast. There is also a Comfort Inn that allows pets and I have ran into quite a few Cards fans there. Both are close to the dome.

Speaking of haunted...

What's the story on The Weatherly or is it Weatherford? Anyone got some cool ghost stories to share?

I like the hotels near the Wal-Mart (I think its still there. It's been 6 years) at what they call Woodlands Village road. It's extremely close to the NAU campus, not nearly as crowded as the main drag in town, and the hotels (Sleep Inn is where we have stayed) are relatively nice.

I have been--

staying at the Raddison Woodlands, and they now have Select Comfort Mattresses. Several choices of food and room service, pool and work out room. Very comfortable.

Decent sushi bar too but I'll never go back.

In 2003, they refused to honor my reservation for their only handicap room with a roll-in shower. I had made the reservation in April, if I recall, as soon as the Cards announced their tentative dates for camp. A week before camp, I called and reconfirmed the reservation. (I had stayed there for camp 2002 in that same room and liked it)

Incidentally, that's where many of the Cards brass and valley media people stay too.

Anyway, I got to the desk and they told me my room had been given to someone else and I had to find another place if I wanted a roll-in shower. Hey, I'll rough it but 10 days with no shower ain't fun anymore.

The girl was very kind and told me Bill Bidwill showed up and wanted the room because he liked the bed and mattress. Apparently, when in Flagstaff, he often uses that room. That year, he just hadn't notified them he was coming.

No problem. The Cards are a huge client for them. If I was their hotel manager, I'd have made the same choice. Luckily, I found La Quinta had a late cancellation of a handicap room with roll-in shower and I grabbed it.

As a matter of principle, Radissons are off my list of lodging options.

I am sorry Skkorp that you went through that with the Radissons. Luckily you confirmed your reservation and were able to find an alternate room. Still, I don't think it is right since you reserved your room way in advance, and dammit, you needed the roll in shower and Bidwill did not. That being said, I tried the La Quinta, but they were also booked. Finally I found three rooms with Drury Hotels on 300 South Milton Road, less than a mile from the NSU facility. I got an esaver rate of $114.99 per night for king beds. With that out of the way, I am googling the restaurants and bars this board raved about and we will check them out. Thanks to the board for all their sound advice, we are looking forward to a great time and maybe bump into some of you!

Naw, I'm not whining. They helped me find the room I got and were very apologetic. Life is life.

It was just a weird little story about something that happened. I'm sure Bill Bidwill never knew anything about it.

I'm jealous of all going this year. If you see a bright red flaming redhead in Cards gear, that will be bigredjane. Say hello. You can't miss her in a crowd.

Sorry you can't make it Skorp. I will try to find BigRedBird and strike up a conversation.

Good to hear, since that's where the family and I are staying this year. In previous years we had stayed at the Wyndam Resorts, golf course, and such. But they switched ownership and now they are just plain rude. Too expensive also.
