It seems I've picked up some Malware. I keep getting redirected in most browser searches--to totally random sites. I've used SpyBot S&D, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, McAfee, Windows Defender to name a few and its just not getting rid of it. Sometimes they'll find it but eventually it comes back, its really annoying...its hiding somewhere and I can't find it

Does anyone know a really good Malware program that is up to date that I can buy?

the malware I know I have is sysguard & AVPro & backdoor.tdss. I didn't have a problem until Saturday but its taking up a ton of time now trying to rid myself of it.

I could always bring it to geek squad but that'll cost me a couple of hundred dollars.

I have had good luck with MalwareBytes and Super-anti-spyware.
Make sure they are updated.

You could also run a system restore back to before you had a problem and then run both of those. That works well if the infection has not been resident for very long.

Google it (if you know its name or a site it redirects you to) and see if someone has created a how-to-remove list for it. Likely need to locate and stop some processes before scanning in order to kill it. Might need to scan in safe mode and remove some registry entries manually as well.

I run different programs that claim to remove it. Dr Web Cure It finds the problems and says it fixed them but next time i log in to the internet I get the problem again. Its really strange because there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind the browser redirects--one time it was a web page for psoriasis then it was Amazon shopping and then it was a job search engine.

I've done some research but it appears I have a new "strain" of the virus/malware there is no fix yet, I've updated all my anti-virus software to the most current release.

I'm still looking..using my laptop for that, my deskstop is whats infected, currently I am running a program called combofix that I saw suggested on a couple of websites, its taking forever, we will see if it works.

I usually do exactly this. I google it, as the suggestion above says, and if its a several hour process I go ahead and reformat and reload windows. If you go that route you should make sure you have disks or keys for all installed software you need. Also, I had to find a bootleg program to rip songs back off my Ipod and into itunes, because Apple makes it incredibly difficult.

Run HiJackThis this as well. Make sure any rogue BHOs are removed.

If you are not sure about the HiJackThis this scan post the log and I can look at it.

I would recommend to anyone that they invest in a good disk imaging program. Reformat your hard drive and install and configure your computer to exactly how you like it (before doing any extensive or unnecessary internet activities) and then create a clean image of your system. Then, anytime you experience a virus or other performance degradation of your system, you can reformat and install the clean image. This will save you a lot of time reinstalling windows, your programs, and your settings.

Also, a very good practice is to keep all of your data files on a separate drive or at least another partition if you can. Makes cleaning, reformatting, reinstalling your system and program files easier without having to worry about losing your data (unless some of your data files are also infected).

I decided to reformat and since I was considering it anyway, upgrade to Windows 7. Until then I at least have my laptop.

I did HijackThis and did find some problems and removed them but the malware appears to hide even further. It appears from what I've been told its a rootkit issue and at this point it would be easier and less time consuming to start over.

Follow: "READ ME FIRST: ......" Thread.

It has never failed to clean up any computer virus I have worked on.

I have a completely different stance on this. The only way to truly get rid of a virus is to format. I absolutely will not trust any tools or software to do it for me. As far as AV programs, they're pretty much nothing more than a warning system.

HopToad says it best. If you're ever infected just restore from a clean disk image. Takes hardly any time at all.

After that, just be sure to practice safe computing. Run an automated daily scan, use script blocking plugins for your browser, etc. (I use noscript for Firefox.)

VIPRE Antivirus has produced nothing but good results for me. The 2 little stinkers that made it by the software were fully cleaned by the same software. I highly recommend it.

I also recommend having an extra hard disk devoted entirely to your mirror/backup. I've been doing just that for a very long time and since I have, there's been no re-formats. Storage is pretty cheap, so it's money well spent.
