The trials and tribulations of a team with a crappy PG. I know how you feel Dukies.

My question for the Lute is past his prime crowd is this - Is Coach K on the downside as well?

See what happens when Dook doesn't get to play in the first round in NC?

As much as I love to see UA lose. It always feels awesome to see Duke lose. Especially in the first round.

While I liked them losing, it wasn't as fun as usual. They were so mediocre this year, it was pretty obvious they wouldn't win much more than a game, if that.

Hey, as an ASU fan, I'd KILL to see the Sun Devils have a 22 win season be considered "mediocre".

Coach K is 60 years old; the head coach of USA basketball; And just had 1 bad tourney appearance...

Lute is 71?, has had many bad tourney appearances, and had a well below average season(for him/it'd almost be an ASU dream season right now), and he might be battling Parkinsons(sp?)

I don't see the comparison...

Actualy this will be the third year in a row Duke has underachieved in the Tournament and if McBob goes NBA they won't be much better next year.

The last time Arizona failed to live up to seed was 2003 when they lost to #2 seed Kansas in the Elite 8, Arizona and Duke this season were actually pretty much mirror images of each other from a W/L standpoint perhaps right down to the first round loss, and the Parkinson's rumor is laughable at best and offensive at worst. If Lute is on the downside, then so is Jim Calhoun, Jim Boeheim, Tom Izzo, and Tubby Smith just to name a few.

Seriously, if I can predict a Duke loss, it must not be any surprise. :)

If you want to be REALLY technical here, since the 2001 National Championship win, Duke has made it past the Sweet 16 just once (2004) and has 4 losses in the Sweet 16.

Granted, one team I support hasn't even sniffed a ticket to the Dance since 2003, another prior to this year hadn't reached the tourney in seven years and my Alma Mater's big accomplishment was beating North Carolina in the 2001 Men's Tournament, so when it comes to trash talking in College Hoops, I really don't have much of a pot to urinate in as the old saying goes. However, your call of underachievement has some definite legs.

The thing about Duke run of Sweet 16s is two fold - 1) They were usually over-seeded, so got easy first round games.

2) Usually played in North Carolina for the first round.

I hate Duke only because they win so much. It's jealousy. So it feels good when the Dukies lose.

No he just doesn't have enough McDonald's AA's on his roster yet.

What does he have Paulus, henderson, McRoberts, Scheyer, Nelson, with 2 more coming in (Singler and King).

I mean it's not easy to build a good team with so little talent on your roster.

:D

In fairness, one of the reasons is every kid who signs with Duke, gets bumped up on the McDonald's list. In fact Zoubek might have even made that game no?

I guess stating the obvious and being offensive are one in the same sometimes...Lute is 71. How old are the coaches that you mentioned?

Furthermore, Lute was and probably is still a great coach, but their is no denying that he is on the downside of his career.
