Mario Lemieux made his retirement official today at a press conference in Pittsburgh. Clearly he was one of the greatest to lace 'em up, but he just has not been anywhere near the dominant player he once was for a number of years due to age and a whole host of injuries. Not only was he one of the best, he was one of the most exciting athletes ever to watch play. Few could match the highlight material he produced on a nightly basis. Even though he is not the player he once was, it is sad to see the last vestige of hockey's greatest era call it quits.

Miss ya, Mario.

"Le mieux" = French for "the best".
