Wow, it's weird when you see the complete changing of the guard. The fans love him, the incredible score in a major, unbelievable shots, I'm having flashbacks. I don't think Tiger is ever coming back to what he was and the same thing goes with Rory, just in the opposite direction. Crazytown

Ya I don't care about this guy. He's a forgeinor. Tiger Woods can still be the greatest he just needs to get his knee right. Plus need an American to win the US Open.

Tiger needs to get right for sure... but, it's much more than just his knee.

Yawn....

Tiger has 70 wins in the USA and 38 wins on the European tour and 15 majors. I'm not going to crown Rory just yet. The kid had a great weekend but all the comparisons to Tiger and Jack (AT THIS POINT) are comical. I dont see why people just cant celebrate how dominant Rory was this weekend, I can get into that. Start comparing him to the greatest players of all time after 1 major and you lose me to uncontrollable eye rolling.

I'm talking about the commentators on TV, not this thread.

They got nothing else to talk about...all this crap is hyperbole anyway. McIlroy said as much himself

He did play 4 sweet rounds though, I gotta say, impressive

TV Ratings went down 26% on Sunday for the US Open.. No one really cared.. Best ratings are still when Tiger is playing..

More than ever, Golf is a global game... In the U.S., without Tiger in the mix the ratings are sure to drop. However, the attendance at the Open was near record levels, and the enthusiasm across the globe in support of Rory is huge!
Now, if he plays like crap the rest of the year, his victory and its' importance to the game will be greatly diminished. But, make no mistake, the networks here in the U.S. would love nothing more than to see Rory win another major or two this year, setting up a battle of epic proportions in next years' Masters between he and Tiger!
And, IMHO, if Tiger hasn't taken the steps to get the space between his ears fixed, Rory will kick his butt all over Augusta. ;)

Rory will never ever come close to accomplishing what Tiger has accomplished.

Who knows?? The kid is merely 22 years old. I can certainly see him winning many more majors. Whether he hits the level of Tiger or Jack, only time will tell...
I will say this - he will be far greater loved and accepted than Tiger ever was. Rory is incredibly gracious and respectful to everyone - for a 22 year old his poise and maturity is amazing. Tiger always had a serious chip on his shoulder - which, perhaps fueled his greatness on the course, but also created a great deal of animosity and awkwardness with the media and other golf/tournament officials. It's this type of "mightier than thou" attitude that eventually took his ass down. And sadly, he hasn't learned from it at all. In fact, I'm convinced he was physically able to play this past weekend. But, he knew his game was nowhere near where it needed to be. So, the quit-job at The Players was inserted as a way to set up the physical excuse that later came. Not saying he might not have some knee issues. However, that was not why he bagged out of the Open.

It will be a lot more fun and gratifying to see Rory do his thing and become a mega-star, than it ever was with Tiger.
Ironically, Tiger has the opporunity to take it all back. To truly accept and own all that has happened to him. No more excuses... no blaming others... Own it. Deal with it. Humble yourself. Redemption like he never thought possible could be his if he does this. And, I could then see him marching on and smashing Jack's record of 18 majors.
But it won't happen until he truly crashes - emotionally...

I know. Rory is more likely to flame out than reach Tiger's records.

Like he did this year?

I would say that for a 22 year old to experience that sort of collapse at this years' Masters, and then in the very next major come back and dominate to the extent he did, he learned a few things about himself - no? He got better didn't he?
He has led 7 of the last 8 rounds of a major. In fact, he has held a share of the lead in the past 9 rounds of a major, going back to the final round of last years' PGA Championship. Again, he's only 22. Tiger has his slam, but he never put together a string of top-flight consistency in the majors like what Rory has just done.

Again, don't know if Rory will ever reach Tiger's 14 majors. But as I said, if Tiger doesn't get his head right, Rory will make easy work of him...

Well it appears from what they were saying during the US Open that he needs his daddy around to hold his hand or he sucks.. I caught that in between all the constant ass kissing that was going on..

His dad wasn't at the PGA last year, nor the Masters this year. He held a share of the lead in the PGA and led 3 1/2 rounds of the Masters. If that equates to "sucks", I think the kid is gonna be just fine... ;)

I would say he did suck at the masters. It's no good having the lead unless you have it at the end.

He already knows how to play golf. He just learned how to close it and he does want it. I am jumping on this bandwagon full on.

I don't know and couldn't explain the PGA tour rules about exemptions, but McIlroy has declined his exemption. The tour makes it tough on foreign players to play here because they have to play 16 events in order to keep their card. I think they put this rule in to keep players from cherry picking events, and rightfully so. But this time it may backfire.

My guess is the tour is in a bit of a bind because they see Rory's possible star quality and yet he can't play here unless he plays alot more events and he doesn't want to because he lives in Ireland

Maybe someone else can explain it better if they feel like it

There was nothing the PGA could do... Rory decided that he wants to remain on the Euro Tour. It's his call to make. He can play up to 11 tournaments here in the U.S. without having his PGA card. So, we'll see him in the majors and a few others sprinkled in...

Seems as if "they" are trying to make a super star out of Ricky Fowler, but he won't cooperate by shooting mediocre rounds. :D

Ricky Barnes? Wth happened to Justin Rose?
