He's still a defensive liability as he gets overly aggressive but his shot is coming along. His mechanics are vastly different than when he entered the league and I'm quite shocked as I didn't think he could develop a shot.... but he has.

iRobot, I was relaxing watching the film you provided on Goodwin. Without any preconceived notion in my mind about what Archie should be doing, it dawned on me that he has the game of a SF. Archie is really filling out his body and seems to be getting broader in the shoulders. Height might be a consideration but I don't think as much as one would think with his athleticism. Maybe Archie has grown some in any regard. Anyway, when I viewed Archie as a SF everything seemed to fit. He can get to the rim, handle the ball, and his defense and shooting should improve with time... sort of an athletic version of PJ Tucker. Now I am going to watch Archie through the lens of a SF and view him in this context. I'm not saying he can't play SG but he better fits the description of a SF right now and maybe into the future.

His trajectory reminds me a lot of Stephen Jackson who evolved into a real nice role.player.

You can put 2 or even 3 wings on the floor with Chandler guarding the rim.

Archie's shot still needs work, even if he starts hitting more of them. He catches and then reaches out and down low, as if he is preparing to make a move, before he puts it up. He needs to learn how to shoot with a fairly quick release.

In Archies case it would probably be effective to start by faking a drive since he very inclined to drive and I'm sure the opponents know it.

Archie's reminds me a lot of Wade. No real outside shot, but can get fouls and to the rim. Plus he doesn't even come close to Wade's leaping ability.

Stephen Jackson indeed came to mind when I was trying to think who Archie resembled. Jackson never played a minute for the Suns even though they drafted him. I believe there was a story about Jackson and the Suns but I have long since forgotten.

He was very young when the Suns drafted him right out of high school. It was very clear, very quickly that he was not mature enough--in every way--for the NBA. I think he played in d-leagues and overseas before he finally made it back to the NBA years later.

Coming into the NBA too early actually delayed his development.

This sounds about right.

It is all the more reason the Suns should not give up on Archie while he matures. When the Suns drafted him they must have know it would be a project hence the Suns patience by Ryan McDonough.
