Mar. 24—GRAND FORKS — UND senior forward Jackson Kunz has signed his first professional contract.

Kunz inked a one-year deal with the Abbotsford Canucks, the top minor-league affiliate of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks. His contract begins next season. He will finish this season on a tryout deal.

Kunz tallied 24 goals and 45 points in 128 college games.

The 6-foot-3, 232-pound winger was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Canucks.

Kunz played one year of prep hockey with Grand Forks Red River in 2017-18, scoring 23 goals and 40 points in 24 games.

He played two years at Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep School in Faribault, Minn., and one year for the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League before coming to campus.

Kunz helped UND win two Penrose Cups as National Collegiate Hockey Conference champions as a freshman and a junior.

He served as an alternate captain as a senior, scoring seven goals and 15 points in 36 games.

Kunz will soon join Abbotsford, whose general manager is former UND forward Ryan Johnson.

He is the first player from the 2024-25 team to sign a professional deal.
