Jonah Hill to Star as Jerry Garcia in Grateful Dead Movie From Martin Scorsese

Jonah Hill is set to play Jerry Garcia in a feature about The Grateful Dead from director Martin Scorsese.

The project is set up at Apple, where Scorsese is currently working on his next feature, The Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It will also be a reteaming for the director and actor, who previously worked together on The Wolf of Wall Street. Scorsese will produce via his Sikelia Productions under a first-look deal with the tech giant. Hill will produce via his Strong Baby banner with Matt Dines.

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the writers behind biopics like Dolemite Is My Name and Big Eyes, penned the screenplay about the infamous jam band. Apple has acquired the right to use the Dead’s music in the film.

Favorite Director making a movie about my favorite Band? Yeah... this just became the number 1 movie I’m looking forward to for the next five years.

Huh, I didn't have you pegged as a deadhead! Looking forward to this one, Jonah Hill as JG should be fun.

yup. total deadhead. consider myself lucky enough to have seen them five times in high school and college before Jerry died. There was NOTHING like a Dead Show... from the four hours of partying in the parking lot before, to the crack of the massive nitrous balloons you could hear from all corners, to timing your mushroom or acid trip just right for the show and then the sheer awesomeness of the music/vibe inside the show. Used to trade bootlegs on oooooooold school servers with people from across the world in college... probably had about 100 of them.

I holed up in my room for a week after Jerry died despondent.

was VERY skeptical of Dead And Co. with John Mayer coming in to fill Jerry's shoes with Weir, Mickey and Billy on drums. They're different, but still REALLY good and Mayer is pretty amazing on Guitar. Not Jerry, but a surprisingly good substitute.

Dead And Co. at the Bowl on Halloween this year was my first foray back into "real life". Ended up going as Jewwy Garcia. Suffice to say... he was a smash.

One of our greatest adventures was me, Cheese, and Brother-Who-Shall-Not-Post, with another buddy going to see the dead up in Shoreline right after I graduated from my masters in tax law program. I was in a cast on crutches. It was a ridiculous two days of insanity - chief among them was my attempt to navigate a steep hill, altered, on crutches. Needless to say, it entertained everyone but me.

Ouchie rolling down the hill so we could steal a cab is one of the greatest memories of all time.

also, that was easily the best Dead show I've ever seen... and sadly my last. Setlist was sick, the boys sounded great, was the only show I ever saw with my brothers and the entire weekend was ridiculous. Total banger. Was supposed to see their final two shows ever at Soldier Field on my birthday later that summer with all my friends from University of Illinois, but instead had jaw surgery. That sucked.

I would have never guessed that you were a dead head. My best friend is one. He's probably seen them at least 50 times. I used to hate them but hanging out with him has brought me around to liking a handful of songs. Estimated Prophet being one of my favorites. I really like Mayer playing with them. He does a great Sugaree performance.
