With the Harden thread in the ASU forum, and reading a thread on another board about this, I thought it might be an interesting discussion here:

If you take a college's greatest basketball player and their greatest football player, which college would come out on top from an all-time ranking?

Yeah I came down to Wilt/Sayers (or Riggins) vs Jordan/LT.

Wouldn't it be Bruschi/Elliott?

I'm really surprised with the lack of SEC candidates.

ND has Montana/Laimbeer

'Cuse has Jim Brown/Dave Bing

UCLA has Aikman/Jabbar (of course if it were baseball instead of football they would have Jackie Robinson)

Ohio State has a bunch of candidates. John Havlicek or Kevin Mchale in hoops and Paul Warfield in football.

How about Louisville? Johnny Unitas and take your pick. As soon as I started researching this, I quit. Too many possibilities and yes SEC schools too. Shaquille O'Neal and take your pick. And on and on.

Kevin McHale played his college ball at Minnesota, not Ohio State.

I like the Jordan/Taylor pick but because it has already been mentioned, I would add Magic Johnson/Bubba Smith(Michigan State).

Is there an LSU fb player that compares to LT or Sayers? I can't think of one and I don't think "take your pick" counts for much. TN? AR? AL basketball? AB basketball? KY football? SEC = not so much.

If you're going to go with Miami, for football, you have to go with Ted Hendricks, not "The (Dull) Edge."

Marshall: Hal Greer/Randy Moss

Louisville: Johnny Unitas/Wes Unseld

San Francisco: Gino Marchetti/Bill Russell

Auburn: Bo Jackson/Charles Barkley

Navy: Roger Staubach/David Robinson

Minnesota: Bronko Nagurski/Kevin McHale

Florida State: Dave Cowens/any number of players (Biletnikoff, Derrick Brooks, even Anquan freakin' Boldin) but I'll go with Deion Sanders

And my personal fav ...

Prarie View A&M: All-time great safety Ken Houston/ABA legend Zelmo "Big Z" Beaty. I can't make this stuff up.

Purdue had Rod Woodson and like 20 astronauts, including Neil Armstrong, so screw basketball, no one's messin' with Purdue. Gene Keady's hair can't compete with that.
