That is how one national writer described this past weekend - I would have to agree.

Three OT games to get to the final four, and the other game was razor close as well.

I thought it was very exciting except for the fact that I had AZ and Kentucky going to to the final four. That makes me the best loser in my March Madness pool. Woo hoo!

how could it be if UCLA wasn't playing? :D

In terms of excitement it's as good as any I've seen that's for sure.

that's a tough one - I think I'd have to go with the 1992 elite eight - it had the Fab Five beating Jimmy Jackson and Ohio State in OT - A number 6 beating a #1 and then there was the greatest college basketball game of all time in Duke-Kentucky in the Meadowlands. To be honest - I don't even remember who played in the other games, but it didn't matter - those two games alone, with all the superstars(JJ, Funderburke, Webber, Rose, Juwan, Monster Mashburn, Hurley, Grant Hill and Laettner) - the HUGE upset by the Frosh Five and the absolute greatest game ever in college b-ball nudges that weekend just above this weekend IMO.

Anyone remember what the other two games were? Or who played?

There has been som many great weekends during the NCAA Tournament that to label this one as the "best" might be a little overboard. It certainly is one of the best, but if I racked my memory I'm sure I could find some comparable games.

And with the NBA looking like they're going to institute a minimum age policy and foreigners heading to the American universities to play ball at a rising rate (not to mention the growing ease of gambling thanks to the internet), college basketball is certainly on the rise and I expect the Tourney to get better and better in the future.

Indiana and Cincinatti were the other two teams. The Hoosiers beat UCLA and Cincy beat Memphis. Both won by more than 20 points. So, if you look at all four games, and think close games are good, then this past weekend can't be topped by anything in my memory.

The Duke-Kentucky game is the greatest game in basketball EVER though, IMO. (Closely followed by the Suns-Celtics in game five of the 76 finals.) The thing that was amazing about that game was both teams played well the ENTIRE game. And they just kept getting better and better the whole time until towards the end it didn't just seem like a shame one team would lose. It seemed like neither team COULD lose.

Agreed although the short term effect of a minimum age policy is it could push a lot of kids into the immediate draft wanting to get in before the rule goes into place.

That's why UW counting on Martell Webster for example has to be really scary for them, he's openly considering the NBA, if he thinks he won't be allowed in until he's 21 because of the rule change, he'll jump now. Same reason his friend Marvin Williams is almost certainly gone from UNC.

But ultimately that rule will be GOOD for both the NBA and the NCAA I think.

Wasn't the Cincy-Memphis game a great one also? I could be wrong, but I thought that was the Penny Hardaway Memphis cloub taking on Nicky Van and it was a good game as well - although I could be mistaken - I just remember one game with Nicky Van or Penny going nuts - but it could have been in an earlier round.

I think you are right on the players. According to the link below though, Cincy won 88-57. Maybe they were in the same conference and had some great games earlier in the year?

UA got lucky that one of the most famous Meltdowns happened on a very bad weekend for ASU. I haven't hardly seen a thing from any ASU fans.

UA 2005 Elite 8 Collapse = ASU 1997 Rosebowl Collapse

Prevent Offense/Prevent Deffense cost us both.
