Three Summit County high school girls basketball players received first-team honors Tuesday when the All-Ohio Division I, II and III teams were released by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association.
Green senior Jenna Slates was selected to the All-Ohio first team in Division II, and Ellet senior Caitlyn Holmes and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy senior Joi Williams were named to the All-Ohio first team in Division III.
Slates, a 5-foot-11 forward, led Green (20-6) to a 12-0 run through the Federal League, a district championship and its first regional final appearance since 1976. She was named Player of the Year for the Northeast Inland District in Division II and the Federal League as a senior.
Slates, a Ashland University recruit, averaged 20.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals this season. She shot 50% from the field and 74% from the free-throw line. She finished as Green's career leader in points (1,345), rebounds (1,030) and steals (182). She is also the program's single-season leader in points (532) and rebounds (298), and the single-game leader in points (35) and rebounds (29).
Holmes and Williams shared the Player of the Year honor for the Northeast Inland District in Division III this season.
Holmes is the first Akron City Series girls basketball player to be tabbed first-team All-Ohio since Markita Griffin-Roberts accomplished the feat in Division I as an Ellet senior in 1995.
Holmes, a 5-7 guard, averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 5.0 steals as a senior. She was named the Player of the Year for Divisions I, II and III by the Women's Tri-County Basketball Coaches Association that features schools in Summit, Medina and Portage counties and by the Ohio High School Coaches Basketball Coaches Association for District 3, which encompasses five counties.
Holmes, a Kent State University recruit, scored a school-record 1,724 career points and was named City Series Player of the Year in each of the past three seasons. She led Ellet (20-5) to City Series championships all four years and to a district final appearance for the first time in program history as a senior. Ellet went undefeated in the City Series during Holmes' sophomore, junior and senior years.
Williams, a 5-3 guard, averaged 22.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals as a senior as CVCA (18-8) won a district championship and made a regional semifinal appearance.
Williams, a Merrimack College recruit, scored a school-record 1,778 career points. She is a four-time conference champion (three in the Principals Athletic Conference and one in the North Coast Conference), a two-time district champion and a two-time conference Player of the Year (PAC-7 as a junior and NCC as a senior).
Medina 5-9 guard Olivia Klanac was named All-Ohio first team in Division I after guiding the Bees to Division I district championships as a junior and senior. Klanac, a Coastal Carolina recruit, averaged around 23 points as a senior and scored a school-record 1,837 career points.
The Division I All-Ohio second team included Jackson 6-0 junior Maddie Lepley and Canton McKinley 5-7 junior Mya Taylor.
Lepley averaged 18.3 points and 5.4 rebounds for Jackson (20-6), a district champion and regional finalist.
Taylor averaged 21.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.0 steals. She has 1,319 career points heading into her senior year.
The Division II All-Ohio first team included Massillon 5-7 freshman Delaney Pierce, who led the Tigers (17-8) to a district title and their first regional appearance since 1994. She averaged 19.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 5.2 steals, recorded six triple-doubles and two quadruple-doubles, and set single-season school records for points (478) and steals (130).
Other area Division II honorees are Perry 5-11 junior Lila Kleve (16.0 points, second team), Massillon 5-8 senior La Nia Moore (15.5 points, third team) and Wadsworth 5-9 junior Lauren Decker (15.0 points, third team).
The Division III All-Ohio teams also include St. Vincent-St. Mary 5-8 sophomore Melania Cornute (17.8 points, second team), Copley 5-9 junior Evelyn McKnight (15.4 points, third team), Highland 5-8 senior Kennedy Morgan (13.9 points, third team) and Louisville 5-9 senior Courtney Barwick (16.7 points, third team).
