Glad the Jack Black rumors didn't pan out!

http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=33520

Hitfix is reporting the rumor that The Hangover star Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers, "Alias") is a frontrunner to play the title role in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern. No deal has been signed yet, however.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan, introduced in 1959, is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Is this the only "official" Green Lantern thread?

Any whoo...there's some footage from Wonder Con on youtube now:

Much better than the first official trailer, IMHO.

I'm just bummed that they didn't make a Flash movie first because Ryan Reynolds would have been a perfect Wally West.

Indeed, but The Flash is so far off of the radar for a film adaptation. With my luck (as a fan) it'll end up being DJ Qualls as Wally West, or they'll do Kid Flash...ugh!

Considering the Green Lanterns themselves, Reynolds would have made a better Guy Gardner than Hal Jordan IMHO.

I'm also a little surprised that WB didn't take a chance, and go with John Stewart. Well, not surprised...but it would have been cool I think. I'd assume that's something they'll work into the movie franchise later down the road...if the road lasts that long.

I would have rather seen Bradley Cooper in the Hal Jordan role and Reynolds in as the Flash. But what's done is done, I guess...

I was thinking Sam Worthington myself when the rumor-winds started to blow for GL...but...to each their own. :D

They have a couple of animated "Justice League" movies on instant-netflix right now that I watched and that was my first impression of the Green Lantern.

Of all the superhero movies they've done so far I just dont see how they are going to make this one non-cheesy. The green lanters power is cool and works in comics and in cartoons but I just dont know how it's going to play on screen. The ring lets him conjure up anything he can imagine right?

In the cartoon theres a scene where flash is being carried by one of the flying superheros and is dropped, but green lantern saves him by conjuring this giant baseball glove and catches him out of the sky. I just dont know how you can possibly do that in a movie without it being totally slapstick but I'll give this movie a chance. I'm sure the Lantern has more powers I dont know about.

I watched one where the Justice League was going to travel to another dimension to fight their "evil selves.

Green Lantern had the best line: "I think I need to get permission to go. When it's all said and done, I'm just a beat cop."

lol

Just got back. Enjoyed it. The end was kind of anti climactic though IMO!

I saw the midnight show last night...I liked it, of course I like most super hero movies anyway.

Make sure you stick around after the credits, although I am sure most comic book fans can figure out what will happen.

Plot Summary: In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

I liked it, quite a bit. I know the knuckle-draggers won't like it, but you don't have to have smash 'em up action and shaky cameras *ahem, that would be YOU, Michael Bay!* to have a good action movie.

Oh if only it were just Michael Bay that felt that way. I know this technique is supposed to raise the tension level but IMO it accomplishes it mostly because of how frustrating it is to watch that junk.

3.5 out of 5.

Not anywhere near as bad as I was told. People kept asking me "You read the reviews, right?"

25% at Rotten Tomatoes...

Noisy, overproduced, and thinly written, Green Lantern squanders an impressive budget and decades of comics mythology.

It was better then Daredevil and Elektra, so it has that going for it.

Other then that I hated it. Bored out of mind most of the time, and the acting ability or the writing couldn't care the "non-action" scenes enough. Worse of all the bad guys were down right horrible. If they executed the bad guys role better I probably would have liked way more.

I totally agree with Joe. Acting was terrible but they weren't helped out by the cheesy lines. DC comics just isn't as good as Marvel when it comes to moving their comics to the big screen. They need to fire all of their writers.
