H-O-R-S-E has galloped into the NBA's All-Star weekend.
The popular shooting contest will be part of TNT's coverage of All-Star Saturday night, the network announced Tuesday. Three NBA players, who will be revealed later, will take part.
The competition will take place outdoors at the NBA's All-Star Block Party in Phoenix on Feb. 14. The dunk contest, 3-point shootout and skills challenge are later Saturday night, and the All-Star game is Sunday.
If a player makes a shot in H-O-R-S-E, the next competitor must make the same shot or receive a letter. Players will have 24 seconds to execute their shots, and an NBA referee will rule if they're done properly. Dunking won't be allowed.
A player gets an 'H' for his first miss and is eliminated once he has all five letters of the word.

Finally! I have always advocated this.

Maybe Nash will give it a go, his preference to rest notwithstanding. Imagine the soccer kicks and headers into the bucket...

I am super stoked. The Dunk contest has gotten stagnant and this will liven things up a bit.

Good idea. I wanted to see this in the all-star weekend for awhile. Also, one-on-one or two-on-two half-court games would be good to see too, but that probably will never happen.

I want to see players dunking dressed like clowns.

They had a league wide HORSE contest back in the 70's. They would show the individual taped contests at halftime of games. I think Paul Westphal won. And you were allowed to dunk but only once.

I think it would be huge to have Kobe vs LeBron.

I wanna see Baron Davis be a part of this. he's the perfect player for the competition IMO. Not an all-star, but certainly capable of playing H-O-R-S-E incredibly well. How funny would it be to have shaq in there too?

Kobe would kill him, he's a much better shooter.

Id rather see something like Nash v Ray Allen

Ray Allen can not be allowed to play. No one would have a chance against him.

Horse isn't all about outside shooting. Dunking and trick shots play a big part. We used to play HORSE a lot on the 9-footers with dunking and trickery on short shots playing a key part.

I would love to get a game of HORSE on the 9-footers with people on this board. Playing HORSE with beer involved is also fun. Everytime you get a letter you have to take a swig.

This is going to be dope.

I think dunking should be involved. Layups. Everything. Its HORSE..why are we changing the rules?

The only bad part is that it technically not part of NBA Saturday Night and will take place outside a few hours before the festivities.

And it will be G-I-E-C-O, not H-O-R-S-E. They are the sponsor. This found that out at my NBA meeting this morning.

I realize almost everything around us is based on needed advertising money.

But playing G-E-I-C-O? Now that's going too far.

What will it be next? "He made a 22-foot ALLSTATE"? "He pulled down an offensive PEPSI"? "He TOYOTA'd that shot"?

Welcome to the 21st Century. Oops, I guess that's sponsored by the insurance company.

Secretary of State: "I'm the secretary of state. Brought to you by Carl's Jr."

Joe: "Why do you keep saying that?"

Secretary of State: "'Cause they pay me every time I do. It's a really good way of making money. You're so smart, why don't you know that?"

Ha ha yeah, i remember when the ASU Activity center became Well's Fargo Arena and it took me 2 years to even force myself to say that. Bleh!
Now we have the Cardinals playing in The University of Phoenix Stadium.....(my, how easily that rolls off the tongue:sarcasm:)
Bleh Bleh Bleh!
In a perfect world without the need for corporate sponsorship where i would be working in Sports Marketing i would've simply named Bank One Ballpark(Bleh Bleh puke!) >>>> The Backyard.
