POTTSVILLE — There was no quit in Steve Kleeman’s squad Friday afternoon.
The Nativity softball team found themselves down by as many as six runs but came storming back to secure an 8-7 win over Weatherly in Schuylkill League Division 2 action.
Sophomore Erin Talamdge shined for Nativity going 3-for-4, including the walkoff hit as she was hugged by teammates.
“This team has really come together the last two weeks,” said Kleeman. “They put a lot of hard work in and it shows.”
The Green Wave struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Chole Covell got it going for Nativity as she smoked a triple. Covell then scored on a pass ball to give Nativity a 1-0 lead.

Weatherly caught fire in the third inning. The Lady Wreckers recorded six hits and scored six runs to take a 6-1 lead.
Molly Kislan started off the inning with a single and Mackenzie Rhodes came up next and drew a walk. Abby Weston got Weatherly on the board as she hit an RBI single. Olivia Marasco came up next and hit a two-run triple to put the Lady Wreckers up 3-1. Aisha Zuberi added an RBI ground out. Cortney Snyder and Rebecca Caldwell hit back-to-back triples to give Weatherly the 6-1 lead.
The five run lead did not rattle Nativity.
“We all had this in us,” said Talmadge. “We were just so determined to get this win today. We knew we just had to wake ourselves up.”
Weatherly added another run in the top of the fifth to go up 7-1 thanks to a Snyder single.
The Green Wave came firing back in the bottom of the sixth inning giving their fans renewed hope.
Nativity got the first two runners on after a Macie Rushannon single and Covell hit by a pitch. Lauren Clark hit a hard ground ball to shortstop scoring a run to make it 7-2.
After Carleigh Palmieri drew a walk with the bases loaded for the Green Wave. Covell came in and scored on another passed ball to cut into the Weatherly 7-3 lead. Talmadge added an RBI on a bunt single. The Green Wave made it 7-6 after Finley MacNamara drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Chloe Zulick singled on a fly ball to second base.
Kleeman was proud of his team for clawing back and not giving up.
Covell and Nativity held Weatherly scoreless in the top of the seventh. Covell got out of the inning after forcing a ground out and a pop out for two outs. Nativity recorded the third out after Rhodes hit a fly ball that was dropped but Nativity stayed with it getting the out at second.
The bottom of the seventh was one to remember for Nativity.
Rushannon drew a walk to get on first base. Covell hit a fly ball to shortstop to give Nativity its first out. Addisan Ricard drew a walk. Clark came up and doubled to left field to tie the game at 7-7.
Palmieri was intentionally walked to load the bases for Talmadge. The sophomore came up and delivered on a 2-2 count as she hit an RBI single into right field for the comeback win.
“That last ball I just felt my grandpa, his death anniversary is coming up,” said Talmadge. “I just felt him within me and I just cracked that pitch.”
“She stayed composed,” said Kleeman. “She did not get rattled, that was a great hit.”
Nativity will travel to Marian Catholic Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Weatherly will travel to Schuylkill Haven Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
