This team is seriously making me want to quit paying any attention to baseball for the rest of the year. It seems to me that last year was easier to watch. I guess I shouldn't really be disappointed by the team's performance, but I expected a little more. Maybe I gave Melvin a little too much credit, or I believed in that these old dudes knew how to win. Either way I think it's time to settle into the football mentality. At least I somewhat expect the Cardinals to be overpowered week in and week out. See you in the unemployment office Bob Melvin and the D-Back's bullpen.

I will not give up. This is the NL West, the Padres could probably go out and lose 7 or 8 games in a row. I can hope.

Pretty sad when the only hope for your team is another team losing 8 in a row.

They got tied for first and have promptly dropped three straight series since. That's not championship baseball. Not even in what will probably be the worst division ever can that work.

Yep - I'm gearing up for the AZ Fall League and the Suns. I'll watch the DBacks, but I have no real interest in the NL West. Think maybe I'm backing the Oakland A's this year. btw - A's mgr Ken Macha may be checking out managerial options in the off-season. I hope we have an opening for him to consider. :p

Dusty's looking like might get canned and with Matty Williams having a place in the front office it wouldn't surprise me to see him out here. I really don't think it matters though. Whoever manages this team nest season is going to have a tough time since we have basically the same roster coming back in 2006.

blow it up. This team sucks... and they are so boring ... we need some players with AT LEAST some personality. Of course we want wins, but while we're waiting ..someone needs to throw a chair or something.

Its kinda funny, there seems to be more negativity this year than last year.

I love the "blow it up" theory. Everyone knows it would be a terrific idea, only that it's essentially impossible due to a unhealthy mix of player production age, and salaries. Green, Glaus, Gonzo, Ortiz, Counsell, and Clark will be our top six salaried players next season (assuming Vazquez demands a trade as most expect him to do) and make up the majority of our payroll after forming the foundation of a below average team. Perhaps those of us who wanted to start over last year were on the right track because right now we're looking like the Mariners South.

This seemed rather obvious to the majority of the sane baseball world. With the dearth of talent in the minor league only growing, it makes the moves of this last offseason even more laughable.

Who would have thought that signing old, oft-injured players to costly long-term contracts probably wasn't the best way to rebuild?

Eh...after last year's debacle, team management didnt have the option of sitting on their hands last off-season, so I dont blame them for signing the guys they did. It isnt like they could do little or nothing while waiting for the farm system and let the fan base to continue to erode. Obviously the Ortiz signing is looking to be a large mistake, but I dont think any of the other signings will come back to haunt the franchise. Cruz is off the books, Clayton will be soon, Counsell only has one more year (and it isnt a very large amount nor is there really anybody to take over for him next year), and Clark's contract is too small to really care.

Glaus and his nagging injuries are a bit of a concern, but he is still having a statistically average year (for him). An off-season of rest should do him some good, I wouldnt be surprised if he continues to have solid years for the franchise. Im going to take some flak for this, but I believe the same holds true for Green. I dont know why so many people are so down on him. If the management (whoever will be in charge next year) play their cards decently, the ongoing transformation from this year's team to one driven primarily by the youth provided by our farm with some solid vets filling the holes should go well. In my opinion, this franchise is not in near as much trouble as some are predicting.

 I agree completly...this year has been hard and im no Melvin fan but once Upton gets in, we have the best farms system (position player wise) in all of baseball...I think the keepers past next year are, glaus, green, tracy, webb, halsey, clark (ph), and maybe Terrero. Ortiz is staying unless someone gets desperate next trading dead line......

add Jackson, Quentin, Montero, Drew, Upton, and possibly Hairston and Santos and viola....you have a good mix of vets and rooks. Anyone know if Wally Backman is available????;)

Add jackson
