Chow Yun-Fat in Hard Boiled Remake?

Kaiju Shakedown reports that, according to Apple Daily, Chow Yun-Fat will star in a remake of Hard Boiled:

A sharp-eyed reader forwarded me the link to a story in Apple Daily, Hong Kong's premiere tabloid-style newspaper (think the New York Post in Chinese) that claims Johnnie To will be directing Chow Yun-fat in the Hollywood remake of John Woo's HARD BOILED.

Apparently, the remake rights have been purchased by a US company who signed Chow on to repeat his performance. They then tried to get John Woo on board to direct, but Woo declined saying that he didn't want to remake his own movie. Chow then recommended that they contact Johnnie To who agreed to direct.

If this is confirmed, expect production to start in May, 2007. A U.S. actor will play the Tony Leung Chiu-wai role.

This is the worst idea in the sad history of bad ideas.

EDIT: I don't know if this matters, but there will be a video game coming out that is a sequel to Hard-Boiled (saw the screen shot, so it will be happening). If Chow lends his voice to that, perhaps either a) that is the reason for the remake, or b) the remake was simply a tabloid rumor based on the fact that there is a video game coming out.

For the videogame, John Woo is directing and Chow Yun-Fat is doing the voice work.

I'm not a fan of a remake for a movie though. A sequel I could live with
