Hard Candy

Release Date: April 14, 2006 (limited)
Studio: Lionsgate
Director: David Slade
Screenwriter: Brian Nelson
Genre: Thriller
MPAA Rating: R (for disturbing violent and aberrant sexual content involving a teen, and for language)
Website: Hard Candy | Hard Candy at MySpace

Starring: Patrick Wilson, Ellen Page, Sandra Oh, Jennifer Holmes

Plot Summary: A smart, charming teenage girl, Hayley probably shouldn't be going to a local coffee shop to meet Jeff, a 30-something fashion photographer she met on the Internet. But Hayley's ready to have fun, and soon she's mixing screwdrivers at Jeff's place and stripping for an impromptu photo shoot. It's Jeff's lucky night – until his vision blurs and he passes out.

Turns out Hayley isn't as innocent as she looks after all. In fact, she has a lot on her mind. Like getting Jeff to confess to his penchant for teenage girls – and to what he did to Donna Mauer, the girl who disappeared from Jeff's favorite coffee shop.

When Jeff awakens, he's tied to a chair. If he doesn't cooperate, Hayley has something to help him along--a little surgical procedure she picked up on the Internet. All she needs is an ice pack. And a knife...

An edge-of-your-seat psychotic thriller, "Hard Candy" exposes the visceral terror and violence that lie at the heart of the battle of the sexes.

I just watched it. I thought Ellen Page was excellent. She really creeped me out at times because of how stoic she went about her business. For the guys, there is no way that you’ll be able to sit thru a few of the parts without flinching.

I've been wanting to rent this movie but wanted to hear some feedback on it first.

This is the part that sold me. Thanks. :D

Okay, I just watched this movie and it is by far one of the WORST movies I have ever seen. I liked nothing about this movie. I didn't like the camera angles and how they faded to red alot. Ugh, very disappointed.

Agreed.

Except it was really funny because of how idiotic it was.

True. lol

I thought it was so stupid that instead of running out of the house when he actually had a chance that he'd be so stupid to go back for the girl, ultimately leading to his suicide. Also, I wonder if Hayley was actually the missing girl's sister? And I hate how they never said what the deal with him and Janelle was. Really, really weird movie.

EDIT: Thanks Louis.

Janelle is the dead girl right? It's been awhile since I seen the film. But if she is, he was present or took part in her rape/murder along with the other guy that Hailey made commit suicide.

For spoilers use quote tags but substitute the word "spoiler" for "quote".

No, Janelle was his ex. He got all squimish every time Hayley would mention her name. Then she shows up at the house, because Hayley called her pretending to be a cop, and Jeff wouldn't face her .. and they never said why.

I just watched this on cable...freaking disturbing. Not the best movie by far but just damned weird and sick. I didn't see the whole movie, I missed the first 15 minutes but I don't think I missed much.

My roomie rented this movie last week and I watched it. I just saw this thread. It was a weird movie, and nothing like I thought it would be, but IMHO, I thought it was pretty good. It was kind of boring with just the two of them throughout the movie, but I would recommend it to people who think "different" is good.

yeah, not the kind of movie I'd say "I liked", but was definitely disturbed by, which I'm pretty sure was the point. disturbing to say the least.
