Just curious...I know there were a few players at the press conference - but it looks like about 10 were listed (in the link provided by jim O)...

I know more guys than that should be in town...or maybe not... I suppose it is the time of the year when guys would go home (to their hometowns) and get ready for the spring - when they seem to show back up and start working out together...

I was under the impression alot of the guys lived here full time....this is about he best time of year to be here (weather wise)...

I was also under the impression green would have a team meeting or something today...I think he mentioned on an interview on thursday that he would be meeting with the players on Friday - not sure if that meant a handful of players who were here....or most of the team...

just curious...

What?
Am I alone when during Greens press conference I heard the term "voluntary" workouts and thought he must be giving the little finger quotes?

I bet if your not in for the "voluntary" workouts a Dennis Green "fine" (IE-release) may be your reward.

I just got that sense during the press conference.

I hear that.
They should ALL be there, EVERY off season "voluntary" season. If there's nothing else going on, go run the bleachers. Do these guys want to win? Or do they want to plan their '05 vacation this summer? Strap yourself to your freaking Hummer and pull it around the training facility. Hell, get together with somebody else and race them down Carver, it's right down the street.

One of the great things about any new HC is that all jobs are up for grabs. The new HC has the luxury of building his team with his players. No one will make the team because the HC that drafted him still gives him the benefit of the doubt. Players will make the team on merit.
It is going to be a great offseason.

Especially since our Head coach doesn't have to worry about ties to players like Mac did from Tobin's era.

So in a sense this is the first fresh offseason with this thinking since tobin's hire.

And even then the focus wasn't like this.

That said, I love this site...we with our access to stuff..which is frankly AMAZING....as a website....is starting to shape the hearts and minds of the org....who has say in the org...WE DO WE DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never heard ANYWHERE of a website news access like we have....we maybe first, we maybe groundbreaking...and we maybe the start of something special.

I would love to hear on ESPN decades from now about how there was a day when sports fans website didn't have an affect on team decisions.

Personally, if I was a person of high stature in this organization, or any organization I'd always look for free, constructive criticism, with plenty of options of where to go....hmmm sound like any website you know?????

As a player....

how the hell could you not be excited about this team now. I loved Macs enthusiasm but obviously he was handicapped right from the get go. This team has been a malcontent, unhappy, half hearted group since the loss to, ironically, Vikings in the playoffs. From that point on management lost this team by letting players like Larry Centers and Lomas Brown go. It showed fans and players alike that this organization either didn't care or didn't have a clue on what it took to win.
Vince Tobin gets the ax and Mcginnis took over this disease. Same basic coaching staff and many of the same players. As fans we became excited by Mac's enthusiasm and frankness. It was very refreshing to say the least. But internally, the players knew nothing changed. And so did free agents. Mac never stood a chance here. His inexperience along with not being allowed to clean house and hire a new entire staff allowed the stigma of this organization to linger, even though internally things had started to change.
This is a new begining. No longer can players or for that fact, us ,say that things haven't changed. Many things have changed in this last year and all of us were still very skeptical. From Rod Graves being put in place, draft choices being signed on time, core players being signed to extentions and so forth. But now the final peice is in place.
We have hired a professional NFL Head Coach. If you can't find a reason to believenow, then you probably shouldn't be here. That goes for players and fans alike!!!!

Hopeful. Cautiously optimistic. Excited will have to wait until we win a couple early in the season

I agree with your whole post but wanted to comment on this part.
Green seemed pretty dang fired up himself yesterday! I've only seen or heard him speak as an analyst and was wondering what his coach voice was like. So far I like everything he has had to say.

slanidrac: While I agree with your overall comments...couple of things for clarification:

1. Although Mac inherited the same marginal staff tobin had...he was able to make changes. In the beginning I suppose he was handicapped...but in the last year or two it seems ownership and graves was calling for guys to get the ax and Mac could not send anyone packing because he was too committed to the staff....so yes..at the beginning he was limited in changes - but I am under the impression that he could have done an overhaul - but he then refused. So...I suppose some of the blame had to switch to him...although it was hard to get new coaches in here when they knew mac probably did not have much time left...We went thru a few OC's after tobin left...and when Mac was promoted they moved up Marmie...so there was some changes....

2. I think after the 1998 season we did lose some very key members of the team.....but I am not sure it was all due to lack of money or commitment on the Cardinals part. Cutting larry centers was clearly a big screw up...they should have tried other things to clear the cap space (restructures or something)...I think we offered Jamir Miller and Lomas brown more $$ than what they received elsewhere...Jamir simply got bad advice from his agent...it would have been in his best interest to stay. Lomas Brown...I think Lomas simply wanted to move back to near Detroit to be with his family more...I do not recall what kind of an offer we made him (or if we did)..but as I recall there was that screwy deal where he was supposed to get some other business interests from the Browns (part ownership of a parking garage or something)...which I think in the end was not allowed by the NFL....but Lomas clearly had an itch to get back to Michigan/Ohio area.....why he went to the Giants after that is a mystery (probably due to Fassel or something)....but I got the impression at the time that Lomas was not that crazy about not on the Cardinals - but being in Arizona - mostly due to family reasons or something....

In response to #1. Yes, Mac was much to dedicated to then current players and staff, but I don't think at that point he could have just went in and fired his entire coaching staff , even if he wanted to. I agree , some changes had been made. As much as I liked Jerry Sullivan I think it's in the best interest to let him go. Do you think Dennis Green would have accepted this job if he was made to retain 2 or 3 of the ex coaching staff. I think not.
About #2. You are right on about Jamir Miller, but if memory serves me right Brown and Centers were both cap decisions, again, terrible management decisions that ripped out the heart of the team and added to the "disease". If I'm not mistaking we also cut Mike Devlin and started the season without a true center on the team...because it saved us 200k or something like that. I just remember players being totally pissed off about that.

But, so as to not lose the whole point off the post, players and fans can no longer say this team is status quo. Any player from Anquan to the last guy on the inactive list can no longer blame management for not doing the right things to be competitive. So if there are any players that still feel that way, THEY are part of the disease that should and will be gone.

Will we be in the playoffs next year. Probably not. Will we be losing games 51-7 and 44-13? I doubt it. Will we be last in the league in scoring and pts allowed? I highly doubt it. I said many times that if we make sensible, logical decisions and it doesn't go our way, so be it. We will forever second guess decisions that don't work out. Dennis Green is a sensible and logical choice. I beleive that by the time next season starts, we will be "disease" free!

slanidrac16..more valid points you make...I agree that we will at least put up some points if we lose..so hopefully week after week of blowouts is a thing of the past...

I thought Lomas took the first flight out of town after the playoffs..I vaguely remember he had some family problems as his wife (or exwife) stayed back in detroit and he wanted to be close to them..I thought we tried to resign him...but maybe we did not..cannot recall...

You need to be excited about hiring Denny Green. You need to be excited about the Cardinals. Thats what fans do. We get excited. The Cardinals have made tremendous strides to make ourselves a Playoff football team. No one knows when, but don't we all believe that the Cardinals will make Playoffs with Dennis Green? You know its coming. How can you not be excited about that?

Hope your right Art. I am excited about being cautiously optimistic!!!:D I hope Green can do it!!! I was real optimistic when Mac took over however. There's a lot to do in between now and the playoffs though. If he can hire a solid staff of assistants/teachers my heart will start to thump a little faster!!!:D

for the first time in a long time i actually believe this team is heading down the right path and that winning is on its way. every offseason and begining of every season i am excited and optomistic but this hiring and the moves that are going to come along with it have me more excited then ever and it also brings a realistic hope for the future. Green brings an energy and a track record that are both new to this team and organization. i think people will change their tune about the bidwills and finally us, the fans will finally get some respect. we sweat our butts of every early season game in uncomfortable seats and watch bad football and all we get for it is made fun of by people and media. I'm proud to have been a cardinals fan for the past 12 years, I'm only 20yrsold, and will be excited and proud to be a cardinals fan for the next 50 years of my life. Lets get this year started and lets finally prove people wrong about the franchise and about us.
