Has the franchise tag ever been used on a kicker?

Yes. The Panthers have also used the franchise tag on a punter. It sounds silly but when you think about it there's no reason not to. Franchise doesn't automatically mean huge contract, it's just the average of the top 5 at that position or 120% of the players last contract. Despite the name of the sport players who's job description actually contain the words "foot" and "ball" don't really get paid that much. Besides, Rackers does deserve to be one of the 5 highest paid kickers and the franchise amount might even be less than what he ends up getting.

We would have a better kickoff coverage unit with 11 Racker Babies then what we put on the field now.

Rackers is probably the best tackler we got on special teams.

I believe the franchise Tag # for a Kicker next year will be about 1.4 mill.

My family and I missed our flight to our family reunion this summer. Neil Rackers kicked our asses all the way to Boston and we got there before the plane we missed.

... If we can't come to a deal with Rackers, we better tag 'em.

I know we drafted Steve Little very high and also Bill Grammatica. Rackers is the best in the league and our best scoring threat so he should be the highest paid kicker in the league. I would guess the best kickers get between 2-3 mil a year.

Janikowski is the highest paid kicker with an average cap charge of 1.7 mill a season.

Any deal for Rackers will be very close to that deal.

We might as well if we have too, I don't see us needing it for anything else but it's also not that tough to sign a kicker like Rackers if you have the cap room and we do.

Once you have a solid position then if you can keep it locked up you should, just one less thing to worry about.

Rackers is worth it. Janikowski is only 10 of 14 on the year (71.4%). Although, he does have 9 TB's, good enough for 5th in the league, but well short of Rackers' 20.

The best way to look at it is like this and I know that you guys will probably agree with me. It's a given that he's worth 1.4 million. I'm sure that the Cards would consider it a deal. Why not pay him anywhere between 1.8 and 2 million? In the whole world of NFL salaries that isn't much.

Debra J. Milke. She paid two guys to drag her four year-old son out into the desert and kill him. She's on Death Row. She looks pretty scared doesn't she? I'm not normally a proponent of the death penalty but his chick needs to fry. Anyone who does that kind of stuff to kids does.
