Hassan Adams charged with disorderly conduct
B. POOLE
Tucson Citizen
University of Arizona basketball player Hassan Adams was arrested Saturday night and charged with disorderly conduct, police said.

Adams was detained briefly, handcuffed, ticketed and released after he became uncooperative with officers who went to a West Side apartment complex to answer a call about a loud party, said Officer Dallas Wilson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

"There was a fight in the parking lot. Officers showed up, and tried to break it up," Wilson said.

It was unclear if Adams was involved in the fight. Officers did not take him from the scene, Wilson said.

"He was given a ticket and sent away," he said.

UA officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment this morning.

Adams, a 6 foot 4 inch senior, is a starting guard for the Wildcats. Coach Lute Olson is counting on him to lead the Wildcats, who are 4-3 this year, to a fifth Final Four in March. He leads the Wildcats with an average 18.3 points per game and is second in rebounds with 7.3 per game.

Should have given him a ticket for horrific shooting while they were at it.

As a fellow recipient of a disorderly conduct ticket from the wonderful Tucson Police, sounds a bit like overzealous policing by that joke of a police department. Reports say he wasn't involved in the fight, just refused to leave when the cops asked him to. He'll take some anger management, probably miss some or all of the Utah game and eventually the charges will get dismissed.

Nonsense, throw the book at him, I hope he misses the whole conference season the felon. :D

Someone on a UCLA board posted it with the predictable I'm sure they'll just slap his wrist comment. As if UCLA is above overlooking things like that for good athletes.

Yeah, didn't UCLA's kicker just drive wasted into a freeway on-ramp, nearly paralyze his fellow passenger, and try to flee the scene?

No university is above this kind of thing (unless you're USC and you "own the police") so those in who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Hassan will get a slap on the wrist legally because he wasn't involved in any sort of violent behavior, the offense itself is very minor to the point where he was only ticketed and released, and it's his first offense. What punishment Lute will hand out remains to be seen, but benching him at Utah would hurt.

Why do some kids think they're above the law? If a cop tells you to leave the scene, then show some common sense and listen to the guy...Why do some people completely lack common sense? A person is given an out by the police, and he doesn't take it? That's just plain stupid!
Luckily for Hassan, this is a minor offense and possibly his first, so hopefully he learned a lesson, and if he didn't then Lute should step up and teach him one...

I wonder if he threw a "Do you know who I am" at them?

...well to be honest with the situation, his worst punishment is going to come from Lute behind closed doors. Gotta love Lute; class act all the way.

Kind of like Miles Simon's punishment? You're ineligible until we play a Pac team, and all you've got to do is pass a frosh class to get your eligibility back(even though you're a senior)...Damn, I'd sure hate to feel Lute's rath:)

Adams to start at Utah despite arrest
Associated Press

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona senior guard Hassan Adams, the leading scorer for the No. 24 Wildcats, will be in the starting lineup Saturday at Utah despite being arrested last weekend and cited for disturbing the peace.

"I think in this country, the legal system is you are innocent until you are proven guilty unless you are an athlete," Wildcats coach Lute Olson said Wednesday. "I'm not the least bit concerned about what happened. What he is charged with is similar to you getting a speeding ticket."
Adams was arrested Sunday after an early morning incident outside his apartment complex here.

Some 200 people were in the parking lot about 2 a.m. and a party apparently erupted into fighting along with drinking and dancing on cars, according to Tucson police.

Adams reportedly became involved in an argument between a woman and her former boyfriend.

Police said Adams was ticketed and released after he refused to leave when officers told him to go home.

Adams is averaging 18.3 points this season and is Arizona's second-leading rebounder at 7.3 per game.

Meanwhile, Wildcats guard Chris Rodgers is looking for more playing time.

Rodgers did not start in two of the last three games because of missing a team meal at Houston and then having a final exam during preparation for last weekend's home game against St. Mary's.

Rodgers is averaging 10.3 points and 2.1 assists.

"We are a better team when I am on the floor," Rodgers said. "The seniors need me out there. Hassan needs me out there to help him out. I do a good job as far as disrupting things. We are a better team when I am out there, and I think everybody can see that."

Olson agreed, to an extent.

"The guy is our best defensive player. We need him on the court, but he is not going to be on the court if he over penetrates, over dribbles or shoots with people in his face," Olson said. "That has been the same message he has heard for four years."

Very true, and I've had rocks thrown at my windows, and so have ASU athletes, and most ua football players, but why not ua basketball players?

Players don't care about what happened to Hassan, and from all reports, it seems like it has been overblown a bit. Problems between Lute and Chris Rodgers, now that's a different story.

Still, the team will be in trouble unless they can find a jump shot.

If McClellan doesn't make grades, they're in trouble. If he does, Rodgers' ******** goes back to the bench and they'll be fine.

Regardless of what happebs this year though, they're brining in the talent to have at least a few more National Championship runs before Lute leaves around 2010.

Seriously the whole Pac 10 is collapsing this year except UW so it's anybody's guess who's going to contend this year. Cal is much improved albeit inconsistent, Stanford is horrible but figures to get better, very experienced.

Just when it looked liek UCLA was getting healthy again Fey and Mata got hurt. Aboya finally came back, played 4 minutes, and one of his surgically repaired knees swelled up and he can't play this weekend. Ryan Wright is probably starting at C again Saturday against Michigan, he started in the win over Nevada. Shipp returned to practice today and is supposed to play next week.

if UA gets McClellan back they figure to be much improved. To me it's UW, and then UA, UCLA, Cal and possibly Oregon and Stanford competing for probably 4 NCAA bids.

UA's recruiting looks awesome right now, UCLA is really in a pickle if they don't get Kevin Love. They'll be fine next year with Keefe coming in and most of the current team returning but they desperately need Love the following season.

Whether it was a big deal or not how does a kid that gets arrested start the next game? Was there any punishment at all?

I'm sure there was some sort of punishment but it was behind closed doors. Lute benched Hassan against Houston for being five minutes late to a team meal so I'm guessing if there was anything to this infraction Lute would've laid down the law.
