Reps came to Boise on Sat. Not sure what the result will be, but he's apparently one of the top choices.

I hope the coaching farm at Boise State doesn't continue....

Last year, when Notre Dame came sniffing around, Hawkins seemed pretty adamant that he wanted to stay in Boise.

I can't see this time around being any different.

Butch Davis is the top contender and is in the negotiating process. Colorado also called the Black Coaches Ass'n. and asked about Randy Shannon, U of M's DC. Randy doesn't do token interviews and knows Davis is the front runner.

I agree. ND was a big job he's talked about before. All his talking with other teams has gotten Boise some new facilities an his coaching staff pay raises. He knows what he's doing:)

New Indoor practice facility this year
New press box completed by 2008
Stadium expansion around the same time

Butch Davis has been announced as a non candidate for the Buffs job. That school is flat ass broke/bankrupt and can't afford a high profile coach. They screwed up so bad with Barnett's buyout of $3 million, they have nothing left to offer a new coach. So that rules out Davis, Randy Shannon and Hawkins. Watch this school sink to the bottom of the Big 12 for the next 10 years.

I hope it true. Evertyime Hawkins intervies for a new job, we get better facilities, and our other coahces get raises. Chris Peterson's offense is amazing.

Boise State coach Dan Hawkins would not confirm that he's Colorado's choice as its next football coach Wednesday morning. But he didn't deny it, either.

"The process is kind of moving along here," Hawkins said, before heading into a breakfast meeting with Boise State president Robert Kustra. He declined further comment.

The Boulder Daily Camera and Rocky Mountain News cited sources Wednesday saying that Hawkins was the No. 1 choice of the school, and the Boulder paper reported that he likely would be named coach by the end of this week. Hawkins said that was premature, but otherwise did not dispute the Boulder story.

Since Colorado fired Gary Barnett last week, signs have pointed to Hawkins as his successor. He was athletic director Mike Bohn's first interview Saturday, after Bohn had stated that he had a leading candidate in mind. Then, Hawkins changed plans to go on the road recruiting this week.

The only other known interview was with former Colorado player Jon Embree, currently an assistant at UCLA.

Former Colorado coach Eddie Crowder confirmed Wednesday that Hawkins was the Buffaloes' primary candidate.

"It's been my impression from the beginning that [Hawkins] is the guy that they wanted," said Crowder, who maintains a close relationship with both Bohn and consultant Chuck Neinas, who assisted Colorado in its search.

"From everything I have heard, this is a guy who's a great community-relations builder," Crowder continued. "Unfortunately Gary Barnett, while a pleasant-enough personality, that was not his strong suit.

"He sounds like a guy who would bring kind of an interesting mystique. He didn't go to Notre Dame, he wasn't an assistant coach at USC or Texas. That tells me his native instincts and talents are pretty good, without having that built-in pedigree."

Boise State won a share of its fourth straight Western Athletic Conference title this season and is 53-10 under Hawkins. He's been a hot name on the job market for the past couple years, and Boise has enhanced his contract and the football facilities to keep him.

However, Hawkins could just about double his $525,000 annual salary at Colorado. His contract calls for an $850,000 buyout, but that will be reduced to $700,000 after this season. Should he take the Colorado job, it's unclear whether Hawkins would coach Boise in the MPC Computers Bowl against Boston College.

If Hawkins is the next coach at Colorado, it is believed that Boise would approach his offensive coordinator, Chris Petersen, about being the next coach of the Broncos. But Petersen would almost certainly have the opportunity to join Hawkins in Boulder as well.

I'm thinking he does an about face. As I said before, I CAN'T see him turning down Notre Dame last season to take over a wreck of a program in Colorado.

Rumor is that Chris Peterson will get the job if Hawk leaves. For all Colorado has gone through, he is a great choice, but frankly he has something good going in Boise. Chris Peterson is an offensive genious, and he will keep the offense running at it's constant pace. Hawkins is a great recruiter and motivator, i hope he stays.

Sources: Buffs tab Boise St.'s Hawkins as next coach
ESPN.com news services

Boise State coach Dan Hawkins has accepted the head coaching job at the University of Colorado, sources told ESPN. Hawkins will be introduced at a news conference on Friday.

Hawkins had been rumored as a potential replacement since former coach Gary Barnett's dismissal last Thursday.

"Dan Hawkins is the type of coach who represents virtually every expectation that I outlined," CU athletic director Mike Bohn told Denver station KUSA-TV on Wednesday before the agreement was finalized. "We will be well on our way to restoring a sense of pride in the Golden Buffaloes."

Hawkins interviewed with Bohn on Saturday, the first interview that Bohn conducted. Hawkins, former Colorado player and current UCLA assistant Jon Embree, and Denver Mullen High School's Dave Logan were the three candidates that spoke with Colorado officials, according to a person familiar with the search.

At this point, it is unclear whether Hawkins will coach Boise State in the MPC Computers Bowl against Boston College.

ESPN has also learned that offensive coordinator Chris Petersen will remain at Boise State and replace Hawkins as head coach. Hawkins, however, is expected to take several of his assistants from Boise State with him to Colorado.
