With the NBA free agency period only two days away, a blurb from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has Mike Bibby(notes) leaving the Atlanta Hawks and Josh Smith(notes) named as the latest player being sent to the Phoenix Suns for Amare Stoudemire.

The report also indicated the Hawks will add Jamal Crawford(notes) and Jeff Teague(notes).

Josh Smith and Al Horford would be my starting discussion point. If we have to include Barbosa I do that too.

I have said it before. Talks need to start with a legit Front Court player coming back in return. Not a guard and junk FC player.

I love Jeff Teague, but I don;t think we need another scoring wingman in Jamal...
otherwise lets do it....just for some change in scenery :p

Doesn't Josh Smith have some ridiculous trade kicker?

Sadly, I think I would do this deal quite easily.

At least we get a bit younger because we can skip getting oldie grant hill and instead have jrich move to the SF and crawford at SG, while crawford plays spot minutes at PG. We still have a decent PF in Josh Smith.

I honestly think we would be in a much better boat then with injury prone I want 20 mil per year amare at PF and gramps hill returning at SF.

*sigh*

Pull the trigger, suns. Screw GS.

About crawford 2010/11 his deal is expiring, so it is not like we get saddled with a huge amount of money long term.

It would be nice to at least have SOMEONE to have and build around, and josh smith would fill that role, allthough not something to really brag about. It is SOMETHING though, SOMETHING.

It is not like this team would be able to build entirely through the draft alone, not with their history.

If they replace Jamal Crawford with Marvin Williams and Mo Evans, I'd consider it. But probably not for long. Crawford has negative trade value, and Smith has serious questions around him.

This doesn't even come close to working in terms of money.

Amare $16m

Smith $10,8m
Crawford $9+m
Teague $1.5m

We would have to include Barbosa to make it work, plus the can't include Crawford for what, 60 days or something like that. Not only is the a crappy offer, it doesn't make any sense.

This is a bogus rumor.

This isn't the worst deal in the world when you consider Amare bolts next season for nothing. Teague would be a lottery pick next year, Smith is a nice building block in a similar vein as Amare but younger and more reliable, and Crawford is a throw-in but a decent fit for the Nash O.

I like this deal much better than the GS deal unless they include Randolph or Curry.

Pair Smith with Nash and he's instantly a 21/8/2/2 guy. (Sound familiar?) He can absolutely fly up and down the court. Crawford is a ballhog who is somewhat talented. But his contract expires soon IIRC, so it's a win-win. I don't really know much about Teague.

IF the Suns were to do this and trade for Chandler I'd be very happy. (Nash, Crawford, Richardson, Smith, Chandler) Doubt any of it happens though. Bracing myself for an Amare for Biedrins, Belinelli, and Turiaf deal. Wouldn't shock me.

Smith is a BYC player meaning only half his salary works in a deal, so the deal actually does work financially..

THAT SAID.. No thank you to the trade.. Josh Smith is kind of a loose cannon, Crawford would in theory work in the Suns system, but I think there is a reason D'Antoni got rid of him, and while I think Teague is talented, I am not sure he has the potential needed in a trade for a SuperStar...

walk away Steve.. walk away

This is exactly why I want to do this deal, as sad as it is, this is much better.

I wonder if there is any chance in hell we can get atlanta to throw in a first rounder, with the situation in atlanta it would have to be lottery protected but worth taking another stab at getting a good draft pick from them after we got screwed before (robin lopez...sigh...).

I'd at least give it some serious consideration. Josh Smith isn't a great 1 on 1 player, but is young and extremely athletic. Nash would make him an all star. In addition, he's one of the better defenders in the league.

As opposed to getting nothing, at least Smith is something to build around. If we could somehow get Marvin Williams in the deal, I'd pull the trigger.

Chandler/Smith (healthy of course) is a tremendous front line defensively. Might even make us look serviceable on pick and rolls with Nash on the court.

You know as well as I do how good the Suns are at trading for future protected lottery picks that ultimately don't pan out. :D

#1 unprotected.

Not sure if the money works but that would be a fantastic trade for the Suns.
