HBO GO Subscription - Apple TV Exclusive

I guess it's official. HBO GO TV internet service will be $14.99 for Apple devices only. I guess Apple wrapped up exclusivity dashing hopes of many people who cut the chord from getting it unless you have an iOS device. AT LEAST AT LAUNCH it's an elusive. Other articles indicate this exclusivity might only be temporary.

Not a big deal for me. However, this kinds of sucks for everyone else. However, I did read a rumor that Apple could be pushing for the first streaming service to go after a la carte programming. So, if that rumor is true, Apple could be lining up many subscription channels in the near future.

It's ripoff pricing anyway.

100% agree but it's a start. I said this was going to happen when channels starting doing this. The prices would be high out of the gate until there were enough channels to compete for pricing.

Let's assume that HBO, Showtime, CBS and they are all around $14.99. You would already be at around $45 dollars for 3 channels. That's not going to work.

Those prices are going to have to come way way down. Sling TV has a better price per channel ratio. I could sign up for $20 a month, throw up an OTA and get my locals for free. However, considering who owns Sling TV it's just a matter of time until that $20 dollars a month becomes $30 and it's still just a smaller bundle of channels versus a la carte. So that's not the answer either.

Unfortunately, this is how it all starts and early adopters are going to pay a premium for a la carte channels.

lol @ apple exclusive. Way to limit your market.

$15 is a bit steep unless it is not contract based. I could always cancel netflix for a month, binge on HBO for a little more and then switch back.

I have HBO GO with my moms password though and rarely even boot it up.

Between having netflix, hulu and go already, its already a pain in the ass logging into different services to see what is on. It would be nice if I could browse all in a text list view on a phone before turning on the apps.

No contract and it appears it's only an exclusivity window. I still think Apple is the one to watch. Rumor has it they want to be the first in town to offer truly a la carte programming which is what consumers have been screaming for...for years.

Even if you don't like Apple you want them to go down this road. If they actually get there people will flock sending a message to cable and Satellite companies things have to change.

Prices will eventually come down for a la carte programming once you have a a bunch of channels to choose from. Until that time....as stuff gets piecemeal added? It's going to be costly.
