AZ: Todd Haley
CHI: Bruce Arians
JAX: Greg Roman
PHI: Mike McCoy
SD: Darrell Bevell

How it Goes Down:

McCoy wants a clean slate and the ability to hire his own staff.

Michael Bidwill insists that Ray Horton and the defensive coaches be retained---so McCoy says no thanks and signs with the Eagles.

Bidwill has had Haley on hold until he has a chance to speak with McCoy again---once McCoy is out of the picture, Haley gets the call.

Bidwill believes that he will be able to keep Ray Horton beyond this year. He will offer Horton a three year guaranteed extension for over $1M a year.

Horton will accept it---but he knows that he can take a HC job elsewhere if offered---he just can't take another DC's job.

Bidwill gambles that Horton will not get a HC job for at least another couple of years.

Your predictions?

Horton's contract is up next year. If the Cards pass him over he will probably be ticked off enough to be a DC elsewhere.

A new HC would want to have somebody at DC that wants to be here long term- It is still too fluid to tell- It seems that the Cards are following others lead as far as HC canidates - Kind of going through the motions on the sexy picks of the year- I would like to see them at least interview at least 1 innovative canidate- Keim needs to own this new GM job- and get his guy!

Cardinals: Todd Haley. It's been his job all along. All this other stuff has been for show. To me, he's a horrible choice so, therefore, the new HC.

Bears: Trestman. The Bears have always gone cheap when it comes to HC's. Trestman will be cheaper than Arians. They want an offensive coach and Trestman fits the bill.

Eagles: ???? It's hard to say. McCoy is as good a gues as any. I thought this would be a good spot for Horton.

SD: Whisenhunt. They will have a new GM so they may want an experienced coach. Plus, Whiz may have a little more say if it's a first time GM.

Jax: Mel Tucker. He has Jacksonville ties. That's all I got for my reasoning :).

Now that the Chargers are in the picture---updated predictions:

AZ: Haley
CHI: Arians
JAX: Roman
PHI: Bradley
SD: McCoy

I had Bevell going to SD---but McCoy would be an even better fit and match for Philip Rivers. It's quite possible McCoy will get signed on the spot there.

Of all the jobs---the best QB to work with is Philip Rivers.

The best young QB is Nick Foles, imo---which is one of the reasons why I had McCoy going to Philly.

The worst, obviously, is the Cardinals' situation...which gives us very little leverage with the top candidates.

Call me an idealist, but I don't think leverage has much to do with this.

Unlike the Peyton Manning situation (where you had 4 or 5 teams competing furiously for the services of one guy (i.e. either win or go home) what we have here are 5 teams competing for the services of 5-10 HC candidates.

Both the short and long term impacts of hiring decisions on both teams and candidates are enormous and the circumstances quite fluid. I'd imagine that the focus of most if not all of the participants will be on individual qualifications, "fit", comfort-level etc. more than it would gaining leverage. (i.e. push too hard and watch the job or candidate say "bye bye.").

I think McCoy will be ok with having Horton remain as his DC. A coach, especially a rookie coach, knows you may only get one shot at this and he won't want to mess with what's working. He can then spend his time concerned only with building a great offensive staff.

I think Trestman is a good fit in Chicago because of his past with Cutler. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Arians there.

Everyone assumes Roman will be the guy in Jacksonville, and it does make a lot of sense, but I think Jay Gruden is a sleeper there.

Supposably the Eagles really like Bradley. This is the other place I wouldn't be surprised to see McCoy go.

San Diego has long been rumored to like Arians, and I think that's a good fit. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Whiz get a strong look here. I think Whiz could do a great job there.

I agree with the above and if he )McCoy) wants to hire his own DC he will most likely get that chance next year.

AZ: Haley
Chi: Trestman
Jax: Roman <-- Almost a guarantee IMO.
Phi: Arians
SD: McCoy

New OC in Denver: Whisenhunt

I still am convinced that Kyle Shanahan would be our best choice. And that Haley might be one of the worst.

And if Horton doesn't get the job here then it is a mortal lock that he walks next year.

I was hoping we'd interview him as well. I'll be curious to see if the Cards reopen the search if they aren't able to land McCoy.

What about Mike Mularkey - good OC with Atlanta, but not so hot as a HC. Similar to Norv's situation.

Horton HC/Mularkey his OC sounds good.

Falcons offense.... Coached some big WR's. Would be a good fit. If Horton could actually lure him here. Any coaching links between the two?
