I'm shopping for a tv t work to replace a shot big screen and started looking at HD tuners for my own tv at home(HD compatible but not built in).

Everything I'm finding when I read customer reviews is talking about hooking up to an antenna, or to satellite. I currently get only basic cable, but Im' considering signing up for digital tv one more time and seeing if Comcast can actually get it to work.

If I do that and get their HD do I need to buy a tuner or does the box Comcast give me act as a tuner? it's 5.99 extra per month but I'm really wishing I could watch Planet Earth in HD now so I'm tempted to give it a try.

Most TVs have built in tuners these days. Unless you bought your TV used, you won't have to worry about getting the HD tuner within the TV.

As far as cable goes, you will still need to rent their HD cable cox in order to receive HD signals. It is well worth it.

If you do plan on getting a new TV, I am not recommending Mitsubishi TVs. I plan on posting a thread in here to explain why.

Sorry I explained it poorly. I'm shopping for a tv for work but decided to look for HD tuners at the same time. I have an HD compatible tv at home, but not built in so if I want HD at home, I need the tuner.

But is the box I'd get from Comcast a tuner, or do I need to buy a tuner AND get a box from Comcast?

The tv that broke ironically is a Mitsubishi, it's a 2000 and they don't make the board anymore so repair estimte was $500 by going part by part on the board. My boss decided to just buy a new tv so we don't have that problem for awhile. While shopping online I decided to look at HD tuners for myself at home.

I am sure their box has a tuner. When they first started selling those, most TV's were only HDTV ready.

Yes, the cable HD cable box is a tuner. If your tv/monitor support HD, the cable box is all you need for a tuner. You will also need a component cable or some of the newer boxes have HDMI I think. I also recommend getting a DVD player that converts the video to HD (must have HDMI input for this), my Divx movies look great in 1080i. Another important thing when looking for an LCD tv is the millisecond response time. The lower the better for action/sports.
