I'm looking to buy a HD tv set later this year and I'm looking for an inexpensive one that is +42". I am purchasing it mostly for watching sports and I want one that will keep up with the fast action. I seem to be leaning towards DLP. Anybody out there with any opinions on which way I should go?

Look one post below this one

I read it and I only seen people talk about the Sony Wega a few times and just one about a DLP.

I'd go DLP or a Sony Grand Wega. Rear Projections are going to be cheaper than flat panels of course, by a long shot.

I think LCD's are brighter, and thus better for sports than a DLP. Both will have problems with pixelation in keeping up with fast moving action I believe.

So, it comes down to brightness your telling me because nothing will keep up with the fast action?

My own opinion is that I'd never own a DLP. They're not bright enough IMO. Plasmas look great, but you do pay premium $ for them. LCDs are good too, and I have some friends that like LCDs better than Plasmas, but IMO from experience they're not as bright & vibrant & plasma, but much brighter & more vibrant in color than a DLP.

Of course, if you don't mind the girth, the best picture is CRT, the picture-tube HDTVs, but they're limited in size.

I've got a Mitsubishi Medallion 55", rear projection. I've had itfor a couple of years and love it. They should be very affordable at this point.

They're pretty cheap, but good luck finding one over 36". Most CRTs are under a grand new.

here's the one I bought a few months back, a 30" Philips CRT:

$649

nice TV.

Here's a big sony Wega that's $1599.

Honestly though, if I was going to spend $1500+ on an HDTV, I'd probably get a flat-screen plasma. The CRTs are nice, but they're a bit impossible to move and pretty limited in size. If you don't mind a smaller screen though, they're the best picture quality possible.

I don't know if they are the best picture quality available...I stood looking at the LCD I eventually bought, and the CRT's...and I liked the LCD much better.

And like you said, CRT's can weight like 200 pounds, where my LCD is 60.

I just bought a 62" DLP and I think that it is plenty bright enough. I think that it depends on how much money you have to spend.

Also, check out uecweb.com. I know six people, including me, that have bought Hitachi's from here with no issue. Awesome prices and fast delivery too!
