Lakers
OREB - 7
DREB - 26
REB - 33

Suns
OREB - 16!!!!
DREB - 30
REB - 46

Amare had almost as many OREB's (6) as the Flakers had as a team (7).

I like the fact we limited the Lakers to only 7 offensive rebounds. That will be the key. However, we haven't really converted this advantage into extra shot opportunities (93 to 92 shot attempts) like other teams had done against us.

The Lakers shot nearly 60% for the game. That makes the rebounding differential more impressive for the Suns but also explains the lack of offensive rebound for the Lakers. If you make it the first time, youre not getting an ORB.

The Lakers wanted to win this very badly. Kobe played 46 minutes for 41 points, he really didn't want Shaq to win in debut. Gasol and Odom r in great condition, while Fisher is just his solid self. They played a great game.

We still out-rebounded them with a large margin, that's definitely a great sign for us. The whole team still need time to adjust.

I cant fathom how one person can be both a cardinal fan and a laker fan. You cant be from Phoenix if you like the Lakers, and you can't be from anywhere other than Arizona if you like the Cards.

Unless you're a troll with the personality of a 3 year old boy on a sugar high with a.d.d.

Pay attention young Darth lima bean Laker fan.

Is that supposed to be an insult, or can you just not spell?

There's always one...

One what? I just pointed out who won the game. Unlike Suns fans, I have continually showed respect for the opposition.

Refresh my memory, you don't want to be known as a troll, right?

On this forum, anyone who doesn't agree is labeled a troll. Since I have been here, I have never disrespected the Suns and you know it. I respect them as a team, I feel they might even be the best team in the NBA, but only time will tell. I really don't care if you think I'm a troll, I know better.

Again, lets resort to insults. Typical Suns fan, and the main reason why I will never be a Suns fan myself. All Suns fans do is complain about calls, make up conspiracy theories and insult fans of others teams. If you really want to know, I moved here from California in the early 90's. I already had a favorite basketball team, but I didn't have a football team, so I adopted the Cardinals. I understand you're angry with me personally because your basketball team lost, whatever, but there are a lot of people that live in AZ that aren't fans of every AZ team. Some people still have loyalties from the city they were born in, it happens. If you moved to Ohio tomorrow, would you be a Cavs fan? Or would you still follow the Suns?

It doesn't change that the Lakers had only 26 out of 42 defensive rebounds (62 %) and we had 30 out of 37 (81 %). It is to early to be considered a trend... but it is at least a positive sign in that loss.

Doesn't agree with what? did you really forget who won the game? With your ******* comment you weren't offering some sort of contrasting opinion you were being stupid.

Exactly. The stat geeks will love that but, bottom line, we still lost.

But that wasn't the point of the thread. While I like Darth, he came on a thread that was about a turn around, a positive taken from the game and felt the need to boast. We all know the Lakers out played a very sloopy Suns squad, if he wants to flaunt the win, do it in the Smack Shack.

Usually the suns have about 6-7 less shot opportunities than their opponents. The suns turned the ball over more than they should have, 2x on shaq outlets that were probably due to growing pains/familiarization.

Positives:

1) rebounding, clearly shaq had a big influence on amares 15 boards, grabbed 9 himself.

2) interior defense: with the exception of gasol getting loose all alone, lakers big men looked tentative inside, dont remember that in previous games

3) only shaqs first game, he'll get in better shape and be even more productive.

4) suns perimeter shooting wasnt very good, and yet they ere in this game. That hasnt happened against the lakers previously this year.

5) lakers cant guard amare. Not gasol, not odom, and probably not bynum when he comes back. Shaq is there to limit, punish the help D on amare. After averaging 14 pts in the previous meetings this year, he exploded and pretty much negated kobes prolific output.

6) the shaq/amare factor means fish has little help on nash, fish cant guard nash at all, too slow. Making fish work on D limits his offensive impact.

7) suns went to the foul line 30 times, and probably should have gone a few more times, nice!

8) looks like lakers cant run with the suns. Suns need to work on the outlets, they are getting the rebounds needed to run.

9) got to see PJ's strategy against the suns BEFORE the playoffs in a meaningful game, its all on film.

negatives:

1) shaq and the pick and roll needs work on the help D.

2) suns didnt force many turnovers, not many at all. They need another wing defender.

3) Rajas shot didnt look good, thought strawberry should have played more to give him a break. Strawberry looks better limiting kobes dribble penetration. I'd rather have kobe shooting jumpers than dunking.

4) no more open looks for sasha, he was the difference in the game, would much rather have ariza out there for the lakers.

5) Outlet passes need to be worked on by watching the laker defensive schemes on film. This will lead to more fastbreaks. The suns will need to run the lakers more, especially when bynum comes back. the rebounds are there to run, now just get the outlets.

Overall I was encouraged by shaq. he looked like he was hustling, motivated. And his athleticism is remarkable for a 35 year old 320 lb player. He will only get in better shape with more playing time.

Again, my intent wasn't to flaunt, but my post made it sound that way. That was my bad and I apologize. I'm not the type to rub it in, I have nothing but respect for the Suns, Spurs, Mavs, etc. I thought the game was one of the most entertaining I have ever seen, and part of that credit goes to the Phoenix Suns. The last thing I would want to do is flaunt it, there is no class or sportsmanship in that. Again, that was my mistake, and I take it back.

 There's no doubt which team earned and deserved the win. That the Lakers seem to be back in the fold is frustrating, but I never fooled myself into thinking they'd be down for long. Damn Lakers!

I have a feeling these two teams will meet again, most likely in the Western Conference Championship round. That could be the best playoff series in a long time if it happens. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about seeing Phoenix in April.

yep go to the smack shack. Some fans just cant resist trash talking. This thread didnt invite laker fan smack, just facts, the suns outrebounded a worthy opponent by 13, fact.

I don't think anyone is claiming that outrebounding the Lakers was a moral victory. It was a positive, though, and is something the Shaq trade was supposed to address. If it continues, it will add a dimension that has been conspicuously lacking in the postseason. Let's see how it pans out.

In a van...down by the river.
All i know is that it was refreshing to finally limit the opponent to one shot per posession. The pre-trade method of rebounding ala the volleyball tip drill & hope you're in position had grown tiresome & pathetic.

It feels like Laker fans think that this win was some sort of upset. The Lakers have the best player in the world playing for them and still only won by a handful of points. I like the Suns chances against the Lakers in a 7 game series to be honest. Good win by the Lakers though they are a force and definitely firing on all cylinders right now. We will too, eventually!
