I am looking to buy a new computer and looking at one that has a dvd and cd burner. Can I find a good one for around $1200.00, including a monitor?

Someone told me to stay away from HP and look at a Dell or Gateway.

I totally agree with that person, STAY AWAY FROM HP!!!!!!!! We had an HP and it was a piece of crap in no time! When we got it, it was not "top of the line" but it was fairly close. Within 6 months, it started acting up. It would freeze up at the drop of a hat and we'd have to manually restart the hunk of junk. That was only one of the many problems we had with it!

We got a Gateway about a year and a half ago and it's still amazing! I'm sure there are plenty newer computers out there that can blow this thing away, but we are more than happy with it! I don't remember how much we spent, but we did get a cd/dvd burner and we upgraded to the 17" flat screen monitor. (SOOO WORTH IT!) This thing has never once had any kind of problem, plus, Gateway has had the most amazing customer service! They called us, almost to the day, one year after we bought it just to check and see how things are/if the computer has had any problems.

I have no personal experience with Dell, but I know many people who have bought a Dell and were quite unhappy fairly quickly. Maybe others on here can give you Dell advice. I just know that our Gateway is the best computer we have ever owned!!! Good luck!
