interested in what people think?

ESPN is pretty mixed but the consensus is he meant to foul him, hard, but not to bust his nose like that. Suspension of one game is warranted.

Coach K made a veiled threat in his comments saying it was unfortunate that Hansbrough was in the game at the end there as if it was intentional? He called timeout with under a minute to play down 13, his team was fouling after made baskets, so they hadn't stopped trying, but he expected UNC to?

Very weird, the angle is odd but it sure looks like Henderson's elbow is as high or higher than his hand so he was clearly going for a hard foul.

Very ugly play.

looks like he was going for a foul but got twisted on the up fake, that left him in the air needing to land and he was angling his body away from the play - same time hansbrough went up to finish the play

i think it was accidental at that point - a little reckless in his initial approach that led to a bad incident on his way down

not as bad as some are playing it out to be - just a lot more bloody than most - some dope was saying he should be held out of any Duke/UNC matches for the rest of the year

Looked intentional to me. He was rightfully expelled, and suspended for the next game (should be more than 1 for that flagrancy).

Coach K is full of it. He has thugs just like any other program.

They were comparing it to the shot Aaron Brooks took on Appleby in the Pac 10 tourney last year. They made him sit the first game against UW this year. I'd agree that was clearly intentional, this one is harder to be sure.

I do think the comment by Coach K that it's unfortunate he was in the game and if he wasn't, this might not have happened, is pretty easy to construe as a threat though like yeah we sent a message there?

FWIW, Roy Williams had a sub for Hansbrough at the scorers table, he never got in because UNC missed the FT, and Hansbrough got the rebound.

Ugly play but impossible to be sure if it was an accident or not. I think he fully went up to foul him hard, but not to do that sort of damage.

Come on guys.

Were playing sports.

The play wasnt that bad. When a team has a double digit lead with 13 sec left and the star of the other team grabs a Rebound and goes up for a dunk instead of just pulling it back and running out the clock. Then i say yah foul his butt hard. His nose isnt broken.

I think basketball has gone soft.

His nose is broken according to ESPN at least it is.

The counter, if Duke doesn't want him to dunk the ball, grab the damn rebound? Or if they don't want UNC to try and score, don't foul intentionally.
They fouled, the guy missed the FT, he gets the rebound and goes up.

I just don't think there's some free license to head hunt because of the score there. Now i don't think Henderson tried to break his nose, but I also think he was trying to foul there, not trying to block the shot.

he was trying to foul for sure

i just think it's hard to deliver that kind of shot under those circumstances

I was always fond of using my elbows, but honestly I don't think I could mark a guy in that scenario even if I wanted to

Last night when they talked to Coach williams he said it wasnt broken.

But i guess it is now.

I can see both sides of the situation. I just think it was a hard foul thats all. the kid shouldnt be suspended IMO.

Apparently that's the rule, they ruled it a flagrant foul and per their rule, it's an auto suspension of one game.

Personally I think they should just lock him in the bathroom with Hansbrough
for 5 minutes and be done with it.

:D

K is an ass. He whines a lot and his idea of defense is to foul every opposing ball handler on every possession. His teams get away with stuff no other team does.

And as far as keeping his stars in and running up the score, K has been doing that for years.

Henderson went for the face on purpose, in my opinion.

K had 3 starters in himself, a 4th had just fouled out, Paulus.

So the argument about starters in is hard to defend for Coach K.
