Herb Sendek hired as Santa Clara's head coach

Former Arizona State basketball coach Herb Sendek is headed to Santa Clara as its next head coach, according to reports.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports first reported the news on Monday.

Sendek visited with Santa Clara officials last Monday about its open job, a source confirmed to Doug Haller.

Earlier this month, Santa Clara fired Kerry Keating after nine years. The Broncos play in the West Coast Conference along with Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, BYU and others. They went 11-20 and 7-11 in conference action this season, their third consecutive losing season.

Local reaction seems positive, he's got lots of experience as a head coach.

Keating was supposed to be a great hire but just never worked out. Too much turnover in the roster, lots of behavioral issues which doesn't fly at Santa Clara. In the end apparently Keating was not well liked at all.

Tough place to recruit at though.
