Before anybody else in the West even reached 50 wins, the Oklahoma City Thunder have already collected their 60th victory of the season. With three weeks left, they'll surely break their previous franchise record of 60 wins in the coming days.
The Thunder enjoyed a 121-105 win over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. In a possible Round 1 playoff series preview, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showed why they might be the easiest of the bunch in terms of possible postseason opponents.
Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 32 points. Chet Holmgren had an 18-point double-double. Alex Caruso, Isaiah Joe, Lu Dort and Kenrich Williams all scored double-digit points.
With the first seed already locked, the Thunder will see how many more wins they can get. Sitting at 60-12, this is already one of the most historically dominating regular-season squads in NBA history. Here's what the Thunder said about getting their 60th win:
Mark Daigneault
On getting their 60th win: “You put your head down and stack days, stack games, stack possessions, build habits and do your best every single day and sometimes you look up, you have a winning streak. Sometimes you look up and you have 60 wins. Sometimes you look up and you have a losing streak and you have adversity, but this team’s made a habit of tackling the next possession in front of it, the next game in front of it, the next day in front of it and it’s put us in this position, which we’re grateful for and excited about.”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
On getting to 60 wins faster than anybody else in Thunder history: “I don’t know. I can’t speak for other teams. I don’t know what they did or what they weren’t doing. As far as us, we prioritize winning at the end of the night. At the end of it all, we 16 or however many there are of us, we come to the building and prioritize winning. Whether it’s a recovery day, practice day, game day, like we take the steps every day, every night to head in a winning direction. We’ve stacked those days up over the season and probably why we’re in the position we are in.”
Lu Dort
On getting their 60th win: "Real proud. I've been here for my sixth season now and had a lot of ups and downs. To be at this point now is good. It shows how much the work is paying off. The trust we have in the organization. It's all showing out now. We just got to keep stacking days and go from there."
