They're still in it. The Columbus Blue Jackets, counted out before the season started and again during a late-season slump, continue their unlikely quest for a spot in the NHL playoffs with an April 15 game in Philadelphia.
With the Montreal Canadiens' shootout loss April 14 to the Chicago Blackhawks, the Jackets' increasingly less slim playoff hopes remain alive for another day. Columbus must win against Philadelphia and again April 17 at home against the New York Islanders, while Montreal must lose in regulation April 16 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
It all means the Jackets, their season — and watch parties for fans — aren't finished yet.
Here are a few watch parties taking place for the April 15 game.
R Bar: As long as there's a glimmer of hope — and probably even after — the R Bar will be packed with CBJ fans. Door prizes and raffles are on tap, along with plenty of Labatt beer, burgers, pizza and sandwiches. (You might want to avoid the Cajun Chicken Philly, though, lest anyone think you're a Flyers fan.) R Bar is at 413 N. Front St. in the Arena District.
Fanatics Sportsbook: Former Blue Jackets player Derek Dorsett will be on hand for the watch party at the bar and restaurant that's just outside Nationwide Arena. Pregame starts at 6 p.m. Fanatics Sportsbook, which is to have food and drink specials throughout the night, is at 401 N. Front St. in the Arena District.
Rude Dog Gathering Spot & Grill: The Polaris-area bar with 34 beers on tap shows all Jackets games, and it also has a home team-themed hot dog on its menu. The CBJ Dog is a half-pound Angus hot dog topped with chili, bacon bits and jalapenos, although that technically makes it a CBBJ dog. Rude Dog is at 8711 Sancus Blvd.
1801 Tavern: Trivia night, $1 wings and $3 614 Lagers are part of the watch party in Powell. The sports bar's menu includes pizza, wings, burgers and subs. 1801 Tavern is at 9721 Sawmill Road in Powell.
