hudson is stinking it up at the plate. why not bring drew up today and move counsell to second. he has done a nice job a second in the past. that would get rid of the winkest link n the lineup. then the order can look like this

C Counsell 2B
J Estrada C
C Tracy 3B
S Drew SS
C Jackson 1B
S Green RF
J DaVanon CF
L Gonzalez LF

I love Gonzo, but he has to be moved down in the order.

Any takes on this?

No, I dont like that at all. The Dbacks starting pitching is AWFUL, they need the best defense possible to keep them in games. Offense hasnt been their problem, they dont hit for a lot of power but their average and OBP is good.
Furthermore, I agree that Gonzo needs to be moved down, but you want to let a rookie bat clean up? That seems like a lot of pressure. Also, Hudson will probably turn things around, he's in a new league and almost always ends up batting right around .270

with the pitching having such a hard time we ned to score more runs. i would much rather have our weakest hitter being gonze hitting 275 then huson at 220. how long can we wait for him to come around. as far as defense swapping hudson for counsell is not that far off, hudson has 2 errors and counsell has 3 at SS a harder spot to play. as har as drew he has 5 errors and is getting better all the time at ss. i do not think the defense will take that much of a drop. as far a hitting cleanup, tracy is and gonzo are the only others who have power and gonzo can not hit with men on anymore.

and i think pitching will be addressed in the form of a trade very soon.

Understandable, ODawg has looked like O-Dud from the plate so far, however it's well documented that Hudson's main value wasn't his stick anyhow. I really do believe part of the reason Webb's off to the start he's off to is because he finally has some defensive help up the middle, and thus far Hudson's leather has been all that's advertised and then some.

Also, putting Drew at cleanup this early in his career is way too risky for my liking. I do think he'll develop in to a very productive hitter in the 4 hole eventually, but putting him there immediately would be counter productive to both his growth and his confidence.

I agree about Gonzo, but not so sure on Hudson, his range and defense is outstanding, hopefully the hitting comes around.

I saw a stat tonight that we lead the NL in DPs turned. Hudson may barely be batting over the Mendoza line.....but that defense up the middle has been remarkable so far.

Move Counsell if you can get a starting pitcher for him. Plug Drew in at SS.

you can't discount defense and what it means to this club. But batting Gonzo in the 8th spot is stupid

Defense and timely hitting is what is keeping this team above .500. Look what Webb can do when he has infielders he can trust to not make errors. I think they said last night that he had 8 total walks all year. That is a huge turn around from two years ago when his D would let him down. We lead the league in double plays by a long shot and right now, we should not mess with it.

On the other hand, getting another good starter behind Webb is a must.

BTW I love the new icon Ryanwb
