Anyone remember the USFL

Phoenix had 2 different franchises (1 at a time) The reason we had 2 different is pretty cool..I was too young at the time to remember (born in '78)...I do remember some of my friends haveing pennants and stuff from them. Take a trip down memory lane.

Yes I had season tickets to both of those teams. We ended up swapping teams with Chicago and really enjoyed having George Allen as a coach with the outlaws and Doug Williams at QB. Maybe we could get Williams to come out of retirement. It is amazing to think about how far the Cards have fallen. There were lawsuits over who had rights to get season tickets to the Cards. The old USFL ticket holders were given a high priority.

How I miss that league! I was a California resident at the time but being native Arizonian, was always rooting for the Wranglers/Outlaws. Wranglers actually got to the championship game only to lose to the Stars. Lasted only a few years but what a time it was!

Being born in '79 I barely remember them, but my family did go to a couple of games.

Was it a farm league? or just another league trying to compete with the NFL?

USFL was in direct competition with the NFL as a professional football organization. You can use the search engines or check out some articles at espn ( http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/usflmain ). Ended with a nasty lawsuit where the USFL claimed the NFL was monopolizing football. They won, but the judge only awarded them a measly $3.76 in damages.
