IMO that was a bad deal. Holliday is what 86? THT is still a productive RB who has broken some long runs despite the fumbles. #34 was more than a solid player!!!

It's a numbers game, and Timmy's number was up.

We get a pick, and a solid DE Backup, which we needed.

His age (35) is irrelevant. This is not a longer term investment or solution.

Holliday is a seasoned veteran who provides a lot of leadership as well as decent play when called upon to do so as a backup. He plays with more finesse than power and explosiveness. He was released by the Dolphins in early 2009 and then signed with the Broncos in November and provided quality play as a part time starter. He is no longer an elite athlete and is not a great knee bender but knows how to use his hands and use angles. He can provide depth at two positions, DE in an odd or even front as well as interior line on an even front.

I actually love this trade. Williams has similar skills to Hightower with more physical ability and upside. I think Hightower would have been a healthy scratch by the end of the year.

Getting something in a trade for a RB right now also didn't look like it would be easy, much less a useful player like Holiday. Seriously, Holiday might be old, but he's probably still a better overall DE than Branch or Iwebema. Plus a conditional pick? I'm impressed.

Him bullying his way in for a TD on the screen pass was totally forgotten.

It made the Iggles need a TD to win instead of a FG to tie. Philly drove right back down & failed on 4th down near the Cards 40. Thx Timmy for the biggest meaningful play IMO in Redbird history!!! His TD got us to the Super Bowl!!!

The way everyone's carrying on you'd think Hightower was an accomplished back. Lets be realistic. He had a terrific run to the SB and that was about it. He absolutely could not hold on to the ball. He not only fumbled at inopportune times, he fumbled ALL the time. There's a reason we let him go and that's it. We get something for the guy and Holliday is a nice 5-6 plays a game back-up. The chapter on him is closed. Hopefully Williams can hang on to the ball.

Thank you for your great years of service Hightower!! I agree with the previous post saying he scored the most important TD in team history (at least from an AZ perspective -- perhaps a TD scored in Chicago that won them a championship is more important) and he definitely outplayed his draft position.

If we decided one of the RBs had to go, I think THT was the right pick. I think Wells/Williams have the higher ceilings. I think with his work ethic THT will be successful anywhere, but just don't see him as a featured back -- never know what Shannahan can do with him though! I think Holliday definitely fills a need (depth on the D-Line) and provides some veteran leadership to a still young D-Line, even if his best days are clearly behind him.

Hightower wore thin on the Cardinals coaching staff with five fumbles in back-to-back seasons. Though he's a reliable pass-catcher, Hightower has been one of the least effective backs with the ball in hands, failing to top 7.0 yards per reception since entering the league in 2008. Regardless, he's a good bet to take over the passing-down role in Mike Shanahan's offense, further clouding the backfield picture. Ryan Williams will see immediate playing time in Arizona, playing on passing downs over Beanie Wells. I really think you're selling the kid short but thats my opinion. Sure he fumbled, but he also played behind a bad Oline & repeatedly was hit in the backfield right after the hand-off. Let's just hope Beanie & Williams are better because I've seen us let solid backs go before that turned into All-Pros.

Oh my god. Tim Hightower in zone blocking scheme!? All his skills are exactly suited for that. He is going to be a beast in that system. I've been saying since before we drafted him he would be a monster in that system. He did a solid job in the power running scheme, he was better than Beanie. But in zone blocking scheme he can put great numbers. He has great vision and one cut ability to play there. Obviously they scouted his skills and knew they wanted exactly him. I'm very sad he is gone, but besides of Texans there is no other team and scheme he fits so well. He can easy put up big numbers and be a surprise next year.
