I just turned the game on and Hill was playing, did Snyder go on the DL. He has not played I a few days and I read somewhere he lost like 10 pounds recently. Anyone know about this.

Hill was killing left-handed pitchers down in Tucson.

.265 Avg, .807 OPS isn't all that great for PCL or esp. Tucson. Koyie is likely going to be a similar hitter to Snyder although if anything with a lower OBP.

I thought he made two good throws to second, though only got the call on one, and he seemed quicker with the throw than when he was up before. It did seem - understandably, since he was a last minute sub for the Snyder (who was barfing all afternoon, apparently) - that Hill and Javy had trouble getting together early on.

I was going with what they were saying last night. They said Hill was hitting I think 367 against lefties.

Snyder has done almost nothing since he has been with the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks best option is Stinnett and if he is their best option, they have a problem at the catcher's position.

Hill was atrocious for the game he played. his first at bat he saw the EXACT same pitch 3x. all called strikes. what the hell, has this guy never played baseball before? let us not forget about blowing a major opportunity w/bases loaded... TWICE. strikeout, strikeout.

get a rope.

Also, to me, catcher is the most important position on the field at any given time. Why are our catchers so sucky? What's it take to get a solid guy back there? Snyder ain't it, Hill obviously can't hit, and Stinnett... well, he's been the best, but he's like, 80 years old.

OK - we'll replace Snyder with another Stinnett-Mayne type guy, Snyder will develop into a very decent - not great, but very decent - better than Damian Miller, let's say - catcher in about 2 years and everyone here will be complaining about our revolving door catchers, FO is always giving up too soon on young guys, etc etc. Again. As you already have this season.

If you have to depend on your #8 guy for your offense, you have bigger problems than just an experienced catcher can fix. We've had at least 3 (I think 4) bases-loaded, less than two out, situations in the last week and NOBODY got a run - not the Gs, not Clark, not nobody. I am actually posting a $100 bounty for the first batter to walk in a freakin' run.

Good young catchers with above-avg bats are as premium as young ace pitchers, good experienced catchers with offense who are halfway durable are really expensive, and it takes a few years for most young catchers to get it all together - hopefully before their knees start to go.

For the level of relative inexperience - and he was rushed, no question - Snyder isn't as bad as you guys make it sound. He needs patience and experience, and unless we part with a really good prospect, we won't land a healthy experienced catcher who is much better.

The part that puzzles me is he used to have a good OBP and patience at the plate with a decent BB:K ratio, and he's not showing that up here for some reason. Even that would make him more palatable.

As to Hill's outing the other night - excitement, fatigue, lack of preparation (he had just arrived and not expected to start) -- well, I'll give him a do-over.
