Vin Diesel is Hitman
Source: Variety
June 15, 2005

Vin Diesel will star as Agent 47 in 20th Century Fox's upcoming adaptation of Hitman, the best-selling video game franchise from Eidos and developer IO Interactive.

Diesel also will serve as executive producer. Charles Gordon and Adrian Askarieh are producing through their respective companies, Daybreak Productions and Prime Universe Productions. Daniel Alter will co-produce.

The game's story centers on an international assassin known as Agent 47 who works for a mysterious organization dubbed the Agency. The first three games in the franchise have sold more than 10 million units. Eidos plans to release another sequel, "Hitman: Blood Money," this fall.

"'Hitman' is a project that by the virtue of its DNA can and will reach far beyond its already substantial core audience," Askarieh said. "The canvas on which this adventure takes place is something that movie audiences have embraced for the last 40 years. We obviously are delighted to have Vin Diesel on board, too -- he and Agent 47 are a match made in heaven."

Skip Woods to Adapt Hitman
Source: Variety
October 21, 2005

20th Century Fox has hired Skip Woods (Swordfish) to adapt its feature version of videogame Hitman, with Vin Diesel toplining, says Variety.

The studio picked up the Eidos game franchise in June from producers Chuck Gordon and Adrian Askarieh. Diesel will executive produce and Daniel Alter will serve in a producing capacity.

The story centers on an international assassin, known as Agent 47, who works for a mysterious organization dubbed the Agency.

The trade adds that Fox is looking at Hitman as a potential franchise. The first three games in the "Hitman" franchise have sold more than 5 million units.

Eidos, which was recently acquired by Sci Games, is working on another sequel, "Hitman: Blood Money." Originally scheduled for the middle of this year, it has been pushed back to the winter.

Timothy Olyphant Confirmed for Hitman
Source: Variety
January 18, 2007

Variety has confirmed the rumors that Timothy Olyphant (Live Free or Die Hard) has been cast in the lead role, Agent 47, in the Luc Besson-produced Hitman at 20th Century Fox. Newcomer Xavier Gens will direct.

The trade says that Fox sees the film as having franchise potential, and Olyphant's deal allows for sequels.

Production is slated to begin in March in Europe. Skip Woods' script is based on the "Hitman" videogame franchise set in the world of Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin.

Besson is producing via his Europa Corp., along with Chuck Gordon and Adrian Askarieh. Daniel Alter co-produces.

Vin Diesel was previously attached as the lead but opted out to star in Fox's big-budget tentpole Babylon A.D.

The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught up in a political takeover. Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the Hitman across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they're trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47's survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl...

I'm assuming this movie going to suck, but they're still gonna get my $12 bucks.

Does this make me stupid or does it make me wishful?

Would you like me to answer that honestly, or would you like me to be polite?

The previews actually look good. Olyphant is a pretty good actor...I've enjoyed his movies, so far in his career.

Honesty is always easier.

I saw it, I've seen worse.

There was a lot of potential for the movie, but it wasn't able to live up to it at all times.

In a game based scale:

Better than all Uwe Boll movies and Mario Bros, and Croft movies,

bellow the Resident Evil Movies (although the 3rd only gets credit because it's easier to tie in with the first two then separate it).
