Still not clear what Dave Duncan's role will actually be... However, Doug & Wolf were reporting this morning that he could be a key players in the Dbacks attempts to snag Scherzer. Interesting...

I think he is our new pitching coach..

Looks like pitching "consultant"

Good news for the Diamondbacks in general and Arizona pitchers in particular: Legendary pitching coach Dave Duncan has agreed to join the organization for 2014 as a pitching consultant and special assistant to GM Kevin Towers. John Gambadoro first reported the news on Twitter.

The D-Backs are still in need of a full-time pitching coach to replace the outgoing Charles Nagy, and Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic adds that Duncan wasn't ready to return to full-time duty.

Duncan, of course, was Tony La Russa's pitching guru for decades, most recently with the Cardinals, and before that he was pitching coach for the Mariners in 1982. Along the way, Duncan, 68, oversaw four Cy Young winners and established a reputation as perhaps the greatest pitching coach in MLB history.

He's got a good mind for pitching coaches. For a team with developing pitchers, this staff will be beneficial.
