I haven't read the book, but we took our kids to see it today. Both the eight year old and the three year old enjoyed it! My wife thought it was good. I enjoyed it more than her. For adults it was a better kid movie than the usual drivel you sometimes get stuck in. Overall I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. It kept my attention, and there's nothing in it that is too bad for the kids. Good solid family fare.

The wife and I saw it last night and thought it was really well done.

We both read the book first and thought it stayed very true to the book, likely because the screenplay was also written by the author, Louis Sachar.

We watch a lot of the Disney Channel shows, like Even Stevens, so it was great to see Shia Lebouf on the big screen.

Really fun movie with great scene transitions.

I watched it with my daughter who's also 8 and she loved it. I thought it was a solid film. It's hard to find decent family films these days.

It was funny to see Shia so young! He did a nice job for his first film role.
