Am starting to look into my plans to attend the 9/19 game in AZ. Am curious if anyone knows about this hotel:

Holiday Inn
PHOENIX-TEMPE (AZ STATE UNIV)
915 E. Apache Blvd.
TEMPE, AZ 85281

The website says its .25 miles from SDS. Since I am hoping NOT to rent a car, I'm thinking this is a good bet, but wanted to check with you guys first. Any reviews, suggestions, etc?

I have no idea how they get .25 miles. It's at the corner of Apache and Rural. The walk is probably right at .75miles if you angle across the ASU campus a little bit. Not bad at all. Don't go bar hopping to your East, stay around the campus and Mill and you'll have a good ol' time.

not a bad place to stay, since a couple of buddies of mine stayed there and saw the Vikings game last year.

That's a pretty good place - the walk is about 15-20 minutes to SDS. Across the street is the Vine Tavern.

That is a pretty good location. No need to walk though, we can pick you up if you want to tailgate with all of us in Lot D. I have to drive right by there basically to get to the games. Let me know and we will make sure that we get you to the tailgate party.

Jersey, call 1800 Western and ask for the closest Best Western to Sun Devil Stadium.

Then ask if they have any "Best Rate Specials" or "Manger's Specials" going on - 9 out of 10 times they do and it's for a bunch off the standard rate.

(Spent two summers working at a BW call center so I gotta give em a plug, sorry)

I think there is a decent Best Western that is right across the Tempe Town Lake from SDS. Only about a 10 minute walk to the stadium.

$79 per night standard rate.
$71 with AAA card.

Hi Jersey Girl-

There is a very nice small hotel right next door to Sun Devil Stadium and 1 block from the action on Mill Avenue, It's a 3 star called The Tempe Mission Palms. probably the nicest in Tempe. Just enter Tempe on your browser and then click on Hotels.

That would definitely be the nicest and closest place to stay. But, it will cost you more than the other two.

My wife and I have stayed there a few times and it is nice, especially if you want to take in the night life of Tempe. But it is going to be in the $80-$100 range most likely.

Thanks everybody!

Thanks for the suggestion, BRJ. I actually stayed at the Mission Palms on my last trip. Very nice. Unfortunately, there is no availability for when I'm coming in. (Am planning to come in on Sat. 9/18 and depart on Tues. 9/21.)

32 -- Thanks. I will call Best Western. Will they let me cancel if I can't get tickets for the game? Am nervous about booking and then not getting tickets.

DieHardCardFan -- I may certainly take you up on that offer!

I just called them and they have a Best Rate Special for $69 bucks a night (i did it for 2 adults, wasn't sure how many you were bringing).

They will need a credit card guarantee to hold the room, but your card isn't charged. You should have up until the day of the arrivial to change/cancel the reservation with no penalty to your card, too. - so there's lots of flexibility on that - you just have to remember to cancel it if you can't get tix, :)

I don't think the opening game is close to being sold out yet, but better look around for those tickets Jersey.

Yeah, I know, I know. But I heard there's a big New England group that comes in and it's the first home game with the retiring of Tillman's number, right? Plus, I'm running into a lot of hotels being unavailable for that time period.

I know, I know. I should relax. :doofus:

If it does sell out that would be awesome! You could always scalp a ticket if it does sell out.

Wendy, can't you just buy some tickets online? Or are they not on sale yet?

Single game tickets go on sale to the general public in late June/early July

I've only seen one set of tickets for sale so far for 9/19. I think I need three, but have to wait and see if my brother is in for sure.

Single-game tickets go on sale July 17.
