Love' em.
Absolutely love the roster moves made by the Cardinals this week.
Ali Highsmith being released and then re-signed to the practice squad was a steal by the Cardinals. Who used this move to quickly acquire a vet safety, who was needed to try and replace Matt Ware, since Rashad Johnson is in way over his head.
Note: Still like Johnson but he has a load of work to do in the weight and film rooms. Once Johnson can start reacting and not thinking he will be better. Almost had a pick last game as well.
Placing Mike Gandy on the IR was the right move. He is not going to be helpful for the rest of the season, and even with his surgery it is at least 6 months before you feel right with a hernia surgery.
Jeremy Bridges is a serviceable replacement, but I do have concerns about the guy at LT. Yet, the situation is what it is, and the Cardinals will have to make do. My concerns aside, Bridges can get the job done, and has proved so.
The really exciting thing about Mike Gandy going to IR, and Bridges starting is the 6th man off the line. Brandon Keith will be active on game day, and has been schooled in both the OT and OG positions for the Cardinals. If any other offensive line men are feeling banged up then we could see Keith getting some action. With they way people around the Cardinals organization talk about Keith, we all should be excited to see what he can do in an NFL game.
I like bring Pago Togafau up from the practice squad, since he knows the system. But, I personally wonder how long Pago will be up for. I think the Cardinals are using these last two weeks to audition some ILB'ers. Highsmith's play at ILB this year was......."not good". Time to see what the next player, Pago Togafau, can do. I would imagine that Togafau will get some reps in this weeks game. He better do well or I can see Mark Washington being brought up for the Packers game, and Pago Togafau being released. Regardless it is a good use of time by the Cardinals, and this is the kind of stuff that allows an organization to continue to improve, and have depth. These kinds of moves help in 2010 and 2011.
Finally, to complete my over-analyzation of the Cardinals roster moves, there is Cliff Louis. A 6'8", 315 lbs. OT from the Giants Practice squad. Love the pick up. Those are some good stats for a NFL OT. You just never know in the NFL, and a young OT with those physical specs has a lot of potential.
Again, in 2010, and 2011 when the OT cubbard is looking bare, Louis could prove to be a valuable pickup. Especially when it seems that Elliot Vallejo is unfortunatley not coming back.
*** Also, remember that as soon as Rackers feels better there will be another roster spot opened up. It will be interesting to see who will end up on the 53 man roster after that situation runs its course as well.
