Packers defensive end Vonnie Holliday chose the playoff chances of the Kansas City Chiefs over the long-term building of the Arizona Cardinals.

After debating whether to take a $4 million a year plus contract for more than a month, Holliday agreed in principle to a five-year, $21.3 million contract with the Chiefs. The marriage between the Chiefs and Holliday is more of a two-year trial that gives the Chiefs a chance to get him for $5 million a year between 2005 and 2007.

F this guy

I love reading how it is just an assumption that the dolphins (seau) and chiefs (holliday) are playoff teams. I personally think the dolphins might be the 4th best team in their division next season. Kansas City could be in the top 2 teams in their division..but they have not exactly set the world on fire the past few seasons..Denver just got worse b/c of their new QB - so I think the chiefs will be better than denver..do not think they will be better than san diego - and who knows about oakland..

KC will probably be the worst team in their division.

Denver is better, SD is better, and Oakland is definitely better.

Thanks for the comments red desert.. I always get a kick out of kansas city.. I grew up there and my family had season tickets in the 1970s and 1980s. From 1975 (soon after losing the famous game to miami in the playoffs) until the early 1990s the chiefs were nothing..relative poor attendance, marginal team, etc. From the mid 1970's until the late 1980's the Royals were the big thing in town.. For the past 10 years I have had to read about how KC is this great football town, tradition, etc... Like most cities - it only applies if you are winning...I grew up watching Len Dawson, Ed Podolack, Buch buchanan, curley culp, Willie lanier, etc..but for alot of the heyday of these guys careers the chiefs played at municipal stadium - not arrowhead... (I was a kid - I think the old stadium was called municipal stadium - cannot remember)...I am not sure when this best tailgating/cookout reputation started..it was OK when I lived there..but not great. I have some friends who are my age and they are big bar-b-quers before the game (they enter contests and stuff) - but this stuff was not going on on this grand scale when I went to see them play - it was usually too rainy or cold!..

Krang: I could actually agree with you also..it depends how bad jake messes up denver.. and I think the raiders have easily had the worst offseason so far - they cut some decent players and have really signed no one - so I am not sure how they will fare - the horrible super bowl could have put them into a tailspin..

Well Cardinal Fans

Pray that Byron Leftwich blows everyone away with his workout.

If he can stay in the top 5, Suggs will most likely be there.

Basically, KC's offer was the same bonus and same average. The difference is in the third year, where Holliday gets the big payday or is a free agent again. In other words, an escalator. Graves stuck to Bidwill's principles here, but it will cost us in the short term, no doubt.

I am also originally from the KC area and attended many games at the old stadium that also was home to the A's. My favorite old time Chief was EJ Holub. I wish Holliday had became a Card but is obvious he did not want to play here so is probably for the better. I sure hope we get Suggs at 6 or we will be looking at the same pass rush we had last year.
