Holy Trinity's baseball team will face Cocoa Beach in its annual fundraiser game on Saturday, March 29.

This year's game is being played in support of the Space Coast Discovery Academy, previously known as the Space Coast Early Intervention Center.

Space Coast Discovery Academy, located in Melbourne, is putting a building on its campus in honor of Tim and Stacey Wakefield, who were longtime supporters of the organization.

Tim Wakefield died on Oct. 1, 2023, from brain cancer at the age of 57. Roughly five months later, on Feb. 28, 2024, Stacey Wakefield died from pancreatic cancer.

The game is scheduled to start at noon and will be played at Lloyd Hamilton Baseball Field on Holy Trinity's campus. Admission to the game is $5 with all food and beverages being offered to fans for free. Brianna Wakefield, daughter of Tim and Stacey, will throw out the first pitch.

Fans attending the game can make donations and participate in a silent auction to bid on memorabilia with all proceeds going to Space Coast Discovery.

Tim Wakefield attended and played baseball at Eau Gallie High School and Florida Tech. He was selected in the 1988 Major League Baseball draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He made his major league debut July 31, 1992.

He later signed with the Red Sox prior to the 1995 season, and he spent the next 17 seasons in Boston. He won World Series titles there in 2004 and 2007.

Tim and Stacey had a long history of supporting Space Coast Discovery Academy, a pre-school program for children with special needs. The school's website explains itself as "our approach to education starts with an individual, not pre-set curriculum. We aim to encourage the strength of each child while building up their weaknesses."

Wakefield was nominated eight times by the Red Sox for the Roberto Clemente Award, presented to the player who best reflects the spirit of giving back to the community, winning the award in 2010.

Other philanthropic endeavors included hosting an annual celebrity golf tournament in Brevard County, raising more than $10 million for the Space Coast Early Intervention Center over more than two decades.
