Anyone pretty good at this stuff?

Not sure if this thread fits here, but giving it a try.

I am looking to get a new receiver. I have points with my Sony card so the receiver will only be a sony.

When it comes to A/V Receivers or anything that has to do with audio, its all new to me. So I need some guidance here. Here is my setup, I have 2 older speakers which I plan on upgrading the speakers as I can not buy/change the size of the boxes due to the built ins I have made years ago for the size of the speaker boxes. I plan on getting 2 or 3 more including a sub. I need about 6 hdmi connections - Dish, PS3, XBOX 360, Wii U, Ouya, and possibly one more in the future. With this setup, what is my best bet.

Here are my choices.

Sony STR-DN850 - http://store.sony.com/7.2-ch-4k-wi-...catid-Collections-EPIC-Sound-Bars-HAV-Systems

Sony STR-DN1050 - http://store.sony.com/7.2-ch-hi-res...-receivers?_t=pfm=search&SearchTerm=STRDN1050

Sony STR-DA1800ES - http://store.sony.com/es-7.2-channe...pMC6MuRF?_t=pfm=search&SearchTerm=STRDA1800ES

So what is the best option for me with my current setup? Have any of you owned any of these receivers and liked/hated them?

Fill me in. :D

It's been a long time since I paid attention the home audio stuff, but I did sell it years ago at Circuit City. I always tried to steer people towards an Onkyo receiver or Harmon Kardon rather than Sony. They just sounded better. But that was years ago and I'm sure that any of these are good receivers.

For what it's worth, a review I read just now gives top nod to this Onkyo.

Here's the review.

Make a list of the inputs you need and then buy the most power you can afford. Even if you don't need Earth-shaking volume, headroom is always your friend. More often than not, you tend to get the most bells and whistles with the higher power models as well.

My first home theater receiver was a Sony and it served me very reliably and is actually still working in the bedroom after being replaced in the living room by a Yamaha.

If it is your first dive into a modern receiver, do not expect to have it up in running in a half hour. You will need to read the manual, scan the owner's forums and then read the manual again. It's a chore, but if you do it right, you will love it.

Don't buy the expensive cables. Use some place like monoprice.com for that. They are inexpensive and do the job. Data transfers or it does not. If you have long speaker runs, buy thicker gauge cable 12-14 gauge and make your life easier by attaching banana plug type connectors.

Good luck.
