I replaced my cable modem a few months back from a Motorola one to a Linksys EtherFast Cable Modem with USB.

I originally had my Motola modem connecting to a Net Gear wireless router. Now that I've replaced my modem, the cable internet won't work through the router & I have it directly into my computer now.

Main question: how do I get my new cable modem to work with the wireless router?

Also, side note, I have another computer that works with a wireless card. It won't work with the router when I have the WEP enabled, even when I type in the codes correctly.

I have that one tied to my neighbor's wireless since they don't have any security enabled :|

Have you turned off your wireless router and then plugged it into the cable from the modem and turned it on again?

It needs to go through some setup process...there might be a wizard for it to...do you have an address to your router you can access via a broswer?

Who is your internet service provider? Some providers require you to call them when you add a new device so they can enable it on their end. I know Cable America is like this

First try connecting the cables. First turn on the modem, then the router. You can then check the status on the router to see if it has aquired an address from your provider. If it does then you should be good.

You can also try masquarading.
Many routers let you use the MAC address of your computer for the router. This makes the ISP think your computer is connected directly.

I have turned it off, but I will try to unplug it. There's some funky address that I originally had to input for the set up - like 110.0.0.22 or something like that. I'll dig out the instructions.

Cox - yeah I did call them & it works when I run the modem directly to the computer, bypassing the router. My problems are when I plug the cord into the router then the router to the computer

I'm not very good at computer stuff, but I will try that again with the cables. How do I check the status out? I don't have a MAC, I have a HP  I don't know what a MAC address is.

Log into the router by putting the address into your web browser. I think there is a link on the left for status in Netgear products.
It should report if your router has a WAN address from the ISP.

This is how you should have it connected. It sounds like you have the modem connected to the Router and not the Router to the modem... FYI see the pic or look at the back of your box. :)
