if Nebraska DE Kelsay was a black player, do you think he would get more consideration as a top DL? A lot of draft publications have him rated as a top DL in the draft, yet he's never discussed as a possible first rd pick for the Cardinals. Do you think that we think "we already have a white DE in KVB"? Do you think that when we put together a team, we don't want to have two white DE's? Does anyone think its one of those hidden "we all know it but can't talk about it" things? I am not trying to stir up trouble. I try not to look at things in terms of race. However, I wonder why on my "board", I have DE A Peek rated ahead of Kelsay, when every "stat" proves otherwise?
If this post offended anyone, I apologize.

I really don't think it's a race thing when it comes to a defensive lineman being picked. I think it's all in the stats and measurable's for each player. Of course there are positions where race is just more common like at CB. How many white corners do you see. I really think that nowaday's it's more of a skill thing. As far as the Cardinals and this board on drafting him I can only speak for myself when I say that I think he is a late round 1 pick and will not be there when the Cards pick in the second round. So as for me I am not really thinking about us drafting him because of where I think he will be picked.

It's interesting that you position the question like you do. My gut would tell me Kelsey might get more interest because he's white. I think KVB gets more hype for that reason. I like him, and I think he's alright, but if he were black I don't think he'd be near the fan favorite that he is. He's not much more than a capable DE. My guess is that's what Kelsey is, also.

I don't really think so.

Kelsay was a top collegiate DE. NFL talent evaluators could give a rats behind on what race a player is.

If Kelsay was really named Apu (the first Indian player ever) and played like he did with his measureables, he would be a 1st round quality player (but not a top 20 player).

Kelsay is one of two decent players on that piss-poor Husker D last year.

I wouldn't take him in the first round, although I would take Groce in the third (or fourth..).

This is totally true. That's why, in my humble opinion, so many people like Kevin Kasper so much, too. He's white, he has Eminem hair, sounds like a fan favorite. Don't worry about his production, like with Vanden Bosch, the guy is obviously trying hard, so let's go buy his jersey.

Personal opinion, the reason we dont talk about taking him is two fold:

#1 he is a BIG reach with the #6 pick.
#2 he is likely gone when we pick at #37.

Now mind you if we trade with the jets for #13 & #22 I would probably take him at 22.

But thats the main reason we aren't talking about him much for the Cards I think.

I haven't seen a publication yet that has him anywhere close to the top rated Defensive Lineman in the draft.
