HOPEWELL TWP. — Ahead of its school board meeting on Tuesday, the Hopewell School District listed on its meeting agenda that boys basketball head coach Mark D’Alessandris will be resigning.
D'Alessandris, a 1991 Hopewell graduate, served as head coach from 2022-25. He was an assistant for Hopewell from 2007-12 and then again from 2020-22 before taking over as the bench boss.
When D'Alessandris began his time as head coach, he inherited a Hopewell program that compiled a record of 32-155-1 over the past nine years and did not have a winning season since 2009-10.

In the three seasons as head coach, D'Alessandris posted a 19-46, 4-30 record that saw growth each year throughout his tenure.
In his final year, he guided a team led by seniors Zach Kovell, Zach Gigliotti and Thomas Pipkins III, along with a mix of underclassmen, and finished with the team's best record (9-12, 3-7) since the 2009-10 season, when the team won a section title.
Outside of his time at his alma mater, D'Alessandris also led the Aliquippa and Avonworth girls programs.
Now Hopewell will set its sights on hiring the program’s next head coach after the team’s growth throughout the past three years under D'Alessandris.
