I purchased one off of ebay...and the Seller has two rooms that did not sell. On the surface....it appears the deal is too good to be true...$200 TOTAL for four nights in a a room at newer hilton garden inn in Tampa....The hotel appears to be well located.
I paid via paypal...so in theory...if I get scammed by going thru paypal and ebay....then I would have some protection. I thought when I purchased it that it may or may not be legit as it is way too cheap.
Since I purchased the room...I now know the identity of the ebay seller and have spoken with him in his office...he is part owner of a decent size construction company in the Southeast...his family owns it. I confirmed the hotel is under my name....by calling the hotel. The seller has been on ebay since 1999....so it is unlikely he would go thru all this trouble to scam people out of $800...and his identity is legit...if he could even get the money from paypal... I am checking into the hotel Thursday evening...so I will be 100% sure when I check in - but now he seems legit.
Anyway..if anyone wants his email address or work phone..I will give it to you and you can contact the guy. Four nights for $200 total price. King bed. Based on all diligence I have done...it seems legit. he has two rooms left - two have been sold (one to me and one to a steeler fan).
So...I have dealt with a real person who has his own business (non-travel related) and the hotel says I have the hotel room for four nights under my name. If it is a fraud...paypal has a buyer guarantee. You could always tell the guy to list the rooms at $200 total and you will go in and do a buy it now - and you can pay via your credit card on paypal.
Again......I am not guaranteeing anything..but it seems legit. The hotel is for real - i have spoken to the Seller a few times. Worse case for me is that I have to find another room in Lakeland or St Pete..but I prefer not to stay so far away...but I think it is legit and a smokin deal.
