How can some media predict us at 5-11?

I just read Bill Simmons BOLD PREDICTIONS. Wow...I guess a journalism degree from a 16 month online institution can get you pretty much anywhere now a days. How is this jibberish aloud and why are there so many really bad predictors? I know that the Cardinals have had bad seasons....But 5-11? If we win 5 games the Orginization should just close down? Because You will not get any more talent here than they do now. ANd it isn't only the Cardinals. Chris Berman has the SEAHWAKS in the Superbowl. Did I miss something, but they have 2 healthy receivers and 1 partial QB and a completely different Running attack. They are old and have a retiring Coach. They went 10-6 last year and won 2 games where teams didn't score from the 1 yd line with a minute to go in the game! Another major sports guy has the Eagles in the SuperBowl. HOW...They have 1 receiver and a crippled QB....and a roster with half the talent they had 4 years ago where they lose the championship game.

Oh well...just funny how these guys get paid alot of money...and most could predict the season better with 3 tarot cards and palm reader.

The media is right more than they are wrong when it comes to the Cardinals. They are nothing, if consistent.

Yup. No matter what we have done through history or how good we look on paper we ALWAYS disappoint.

Hopefully no longer but who really knows.

Seattle and the Eagles have had the same system in place for a very long time. That means more than talent.

(Not that i agree with them)

If you were to ask sports writers, I bet most of them would tell you that they hate having to make prognostications on the NFL season records prior to the season having begun. It's just too hard to determine from year to year.

During a discussion I had with a NFL writer for USA Today, he stated, that even 4-6 games into the season it is difficult to guess how the season will unfold.

Yep, that is why Simmons only tossed out 12 overall predictions. Picking divisions and stuff is nuts.

for the last 3 years, we were supposed to be the surprise team of the NFL and that hasnt come to fruition. The media is sick of picking us and has a "prove it" mentality. The Browns last season came out of no where to make a significant impact, nearly making the playoffs and we are a better team than them. Who knows whats going to happen.

Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Frankly, the perception is that we suck.

The only way to change perception is to put some W's up on the board.

The thing is: virutally every team is more than capable of going 5-11. The difference between winning and losing in the NFL is so slight...it comes down to :

(1) coaching, especially in tight games;

(2) keeping healthy (if Tom Brady gets hurt, the Patriots could go 5-11...their backup QBs are bad and won't win them the close games);

(3) avoiding teams being hot when you play them (which is why it is totally pointless to look down a schedule and predict wins and losses--all teams are capable of being hot when you play them);

(4) getting off to slow starts and having to play catch-up (which causes teams to press too hard at times and often leads a team to become demoralized when they put in the effort and still don't win);

(5) field goal success, especially with games on the line.

Note: losing in football has a tougher impact on a team than any other sport...because winning allows the banged up (and let's face it, most NFL players have real painful Mondays) to feel it's all worth it, whereas losing causes the banged up to question whether the physical and emotional toll is too much.

This pundit may be paying attention to history...the Cards always seem to drop off to 4-12 or 5-11 after a rare non-losing season.

That's why this is such an important year for Whiz and his staff. If they build on last year's win total and make the playoffs...the Cardinals may be good for years to come.

Because we're 5-11 with 'em and 5-11 without 'em.

Right on target Mitch! Great post! I especially agree with the last two points.

Most people who do these kind of predictions are too lazy to do any real homework, IMO. The Forty-Niners will win because they are "the Forty-Niners" who have multiple championships and we are "the Cardinals" who have "one winning season since 1947".

That's the extent of the knowledge of the two teams by a lot of people. After we win these first two games, people will begin to take notice.

"NO RESPECT!"

For real. I went to McDonald's yesterday wearing my Cardinals cap and they told me I didn't deserve any respect.

But I can do the triple lindy at the local swimming pool.

CC, I don't have a problem with us not being picked to win the division. That's up to us to prove them wrong on that, but I agree fully about print media's apparent disrespect for our roster, and the direction this team is headed. I am livid enough to e-mail 3 sportswriters here in Philly who have picked us to finish last. Last!! I have 6 reasons why there is no way in hell we finish last. Dockett,Dansby,Wilson,Boldin,Fitzgerald,Hayes. On top of that one of them picked the eagles to beat us 31-13 on Thanksgiving! I really don't think that any of them have watched 5 seconds of Arizona Cardinal football.
